We are thinking about planning a trip to Mexico next summer or fall. Looking for any suggestions you may have for a nice resort package, something not too expensive or fancy. It's me, DH and DD's 11 and 13. Thanks in advance!

Bumping for ya! My family is looking for the exact same thing for next January. The only difference is that my brother will be 11 and I will be a few months shy of 17.

We did this last year with our 11 yr old DD and 9 yr old DS. We booked through Apple Vacations and stayed at the Iberostar Tucan in Playacar. It was FANTASTIC!! The kids loved it. There really weren't any planned activities that were geared for kids as old as ours, but there was plenty else to do. The kids program was really geared for much younger children. Our kids loved the food, the availability of getting sodas and smoothies, pizza, fries at any time, and meeting other kids from all over the world. The grounds were amazing with a jungle setting full of animals and interesting birds, a HUGE pool, and very nice beach. There were family friendly shows every night beginning with a mini-show geared for the kids. I would go back again in a heartbeat!

My mom goes to the same resort in Playa del Carmen every year. She's there right now. I can't remember what it's called though :confused3 I know it's all-inclusive, they have tons of activities, and it's affordable. When she gets back next week I'll post if you're still looking.

deoends on where you want to stay in Mexico?

If you want to go to Puerto Vallarta, I send a lot of clients to the melia there. They love it.

There are lots of choices though.

Iberostars in Playa Del Carmen
Royal Solaris in Cabo San Lucas

We went to Riu Palace Mexico in Playa Del Carmen in December of 2004. I would highly recommend this resort. It is the higher-level Riu in Playa Del Carmen. I think they have 2 or 3 others there. If you book at Riu Palace you can use the amenities at all the other Rius. (We were a party of 8 ranging in age from 19 up to 62.)

Riu Palace was geared more toward families with older children than partying-types. They have several restaurants, a huge pool and beach area as well as activities for all ages.
It was a FABULOUS vacation and I would recommend the Riu Palace to anyone!!! (Geez, I sound like an ad... Hey if the Riu owners are reading, I would love a free stay!!! LOL!) In fact, the resort was so great we never left! We now have to return to see the Mayan ruins!

I'll let you know soon. We are going to an Iberostar in June - the Del Mar. Our neighbors went and loved it. Their pictures were gorgeous!!! Kids (under 12)are free after May 1st. We are just paying airfare for them. It's All- inclusive. I just can't wait. I'm soooo excited.

Check out www.tripadvisor.com - that has been a great help in my planning

edit to add - this is also in Playa Del Carmen - south of Cancun

Iberostar. My personal recommendation would be the Paraiso Lindo. There are two "campuses" (if you will) in Playa del Carmen. One, North of town, has the Del Mar, Beach, Lindo and Maya (lower end to upper end respectively). We stayed at the Del Mar and it was very lovely. The rooms were very nice and clean, but we preferred the grounds and the clientele of the Lindo. The Lindo and Maya guests can use the facilities at the Beach/Del Mar, but not vice-versa. I would highly recommend any of these four resorts, but if we ever go back, we'll stay at the Lindo.

Now, I would also consider the Iberostar Tucan or Quetzal which are in a gated community on the south side of Playa del Carmen. If you want to be closer to town, this would be a better choice.

Wow! Thanks for all the replies :thumbsup2
I'm gonna be up all night looking at the resorts mentioned~but that's a good thing!
Sounds like some great places. We have no clue where in Mexico to go, but with all these suggestions, it makes for a great starting point. Thanks again!
