We were to leave in 8 days. We have a ** at * booked for **.
Due to a family illness, it looks like we are going to have to cancel.
Do we lose our points? I have a June use year.
Can we have the points recredited?
Please help!

If they are 2008 points, technically they have to be used by May 31 and it is too late to bank them--however, I would call Member Services in the morning and explain the situation--they've been known to help out members in an emergency cancel situation.

I had something similiar last October and Member services was able to help. Also if you explain it to the airlines (if you were flying from Chicago) they may give you credit to reuse as well.

I would call your Guide also and explain the situation. When we took the tour in March, 2009, our Guide specifically told us that we should call him if we were ever in a situation where we were scheduled for a trip and had to cancel at the last minute due to an emergency. Either way, best of luck to you and your family, and I hope everything works out okay. :flower3:

Please report back what you hear from MS. I might be possibly in a similar situation.

Good luck with everything. I hope your family member is okay and that all turns out well. :goodvibes

Cancelling in less than 31 days means the points go into holding and cannot be booked until the last 2 months of your use year. It looks to me like you might not be able to do that in this case, so I agree that you should call and see if they can work some magic.

I hope you can get them to help you, but actually these points expire in a month anyway. Can you rent the reservation to someone? Or have a family member or friend who could use the reservation?

The points would go into Holding Status which means they can be re-used for another DVC resort reservation during this Use Year that is booked 60 days or less before the check-in date so you would have this option available to you providing you can get a check in date before the end of your UY on May 31 - so maybe you can find someone to rent from you; might be difficult in such a short amount of time but perhaps you can get at least enough on rental to cover your MFs on these points.

I do agree with other posters here to give MS call and discuss what's going on with them.

Sending best wishes for your family member's well-being :flower3: &
hope the points situation works out favorably.

:goodvibes

Details have been edited out of the OP's post - with mention of renting as a solution here, details had to be removed so as not to construe a seeking rental post.

Did you have trip insurance, by chance?

Let us know what happens. I hope everything will be okay and best wishes to you and your family. Here is some needed pixie dust for you. pixiedust:pixiedust:pixiedust:
