Hi, my family will be cruising for the first time on Disney, May 2006. Our kids are 12 and 13 and we worry that they will not want to interact in the teen activities but want to stay with us. I know that there are several areas that they can't come with us. Has anyone encountered this problem? NO Children allowed! :confused3

Well, our kids were 3 & 5 when we first cruised, 4 & 6 last year so they were with us a good deal of the time. There are plenty of areas for family activities. The only places they can't go during the day are the spa, the adult pool, & Palo for brunch. At night they can't go to the adult clubs or Palo or the adult pool. The great majority of the public areas on the ship are open to everyone.

There are so many places that they can be, they won't even miss the places where they can't be.

Will they be 13 and 14 when you sail? Do they get along well together? If so, they should be able to have fun together in the teen activity areas.

They're lucky to have eachother to go in there with someone, I imagine it might be harder for kids that don't know a soul. I have boy/girl twins and although they're younger than your kids they like to be together and share a lot of the same friends. I always tell them they're lucky to have eachother.

Even if your kids don't want to go in the clubs there's still a lot they can do together on the ship like movies, the arcade, basketball court, food and ice cream stands, pools, etc... It should be fun. We also like cruising with friends and their kids so the kids have some others to hang out with.

I had a wonderful afternoon last year. DH went onshore to Nassau, kids went in club, and I had a relaxing lunch on my verandah, then spent a couple of hours drinking pina coladas in the hot tub with another Dis-er, Justus3D. You should be able to find plenty of adult alone time, I think. Best of luck! :wizard:

If you are by chance sailing on the May 27th, 2006 sailing with 2 stops at Castaway Cay, please join us over on our meet thread http://disboards.com/showthread.php?t=653643 dont let the length of it scare you off, just hop on and say hi, if you are on our sailing.

DD was 12 and DS 16 on our Eastern, did everything but the wine tasting with us. Never a problem. It was a family vacation, chance for us to be our kids friends instead of mom and dad for a week. It was a blast.
Same thing with our HAL cruise to Alaska the year before. They had great kids clubs too, but our kids wanted to spend time with us.
