OK. So I use a laptop it is an Acer Aspire, It runs on Vista (so obviously getting a bit "aged" lol) Great little machine. But I need a desktop, my son is turning 9 this month and NEEDS to learn how to type better.

He will also need it for homework, and stuff of that nature. He isn't too keen on the idea because well, he knows mostly its for homework. LOL

So..
What kind do you have? What are your likes and dislikes about it?
Any hints about where to find the best price and when (like is Christmas time better to buy?)

Thanks all!!!:wizard:

Yeah, one computer for us just isn't working lol

hmmm, black friday, wonder if there will be any early morning deals online that day. I will have work.

Personally I would get another laptop for the convenience and just get a keyboard to plug into it if that is easier to learn to type on. We have recently moved to one computer/person in our house because we all seem to want or need the computer at the same time. We also upgraded to a wireless printer since 4 of our computers are laptops. DD often takes a laptop outside and does her homework while lounging on our hammock.

The reason for the desktop is lack of portability for my 9 year old :hippie:
I do not want him to be able to move it into his room, I work during the day and his pappy watches him after school. And I would like it to be in the same room as his pap or anyone who happens to be sitting.

So set up a desk in the tv room or where ever and the laptop stays there-but then YOU have the portability if you want. My computer is set up in the kitchen and for the most part it stays there (connected to a docking station) but if we go out of town I take my computer with me. His could be the "out of town" computer.

We bought an HP Media Center a few years back as our family desktop. It has a lot of bells and whistles that you might not want though. Good computer though.

Now everyone is getting their own laptops. DD15 got one two years ago (Acer), DS17 got one last month (?), and DH got a Netbook last year.

I guess I could go laptop. I guess I just am afraid if the ability to move it strikes him he will move it and I try to make his paps policing duties after school be easier not more to watch. :lmao:
He is a great kid but like all kids if there is a loophole he will try to test it.

I got a great deal on an HP (through their site) touch screen, all in one in April. We LOVE it! It's incredibly fast (quad core), the screen is huge and it's just fun to use. Was around $1K. It replaces a dinosaur. We also have a basic Acer laptop purchased this year for $399 and an Acer netbook purchased last Christmas for $199. There are 3 of us, so it's perfect.

LOL alright. The computer I do all my bookeeping on is running Windows 98SE!! Works perfectly. I hate the newer banking software that REQUIRES you to link the software to your online bank website. I want stand alone software.

Dell and HP make great computers. You can get a great price at Walmart or Best Buy.
We have 5 Dells in our family (2 desktops, 2 laptops, 2 notebook), and 1 Mac (laptop).
