fall free dining question

We just booked airfare for 11/17-11/24. We are hoping for a free dining code to stay at the Beach/Yacht Club. If a code doesn't come up or doesn't apply to our dates we will stay at the Swan.

Should we book a reservation for the Beach/Yacht Club and cancel if a code doesn't come out? Can we book room only and then add on free dining and tickets or do we need to book a package (room with tix) in order to add free dining? Is there any benefit to booking a reservation now vs. waiting for free dining?

Sorry for so many questions and scenarios. Just wondering our best option.

There is no real advantage to booking now if you do not intend to stay there without the discount. The only reason to book now would be to hold a spot for you in case you change your mind and stay, even without a discount.

The reason - if the discount is offered, it will be only for a specified number of rooms. As an example, they might allocate 50 rooms at the resort for the discount. Whether or not they have an existing ressie, the first 50 people to reserve using the discount get it - or even less if some people book more than one room. So, having a room booked doesn't give you an advantage in securing that discount. First come, first served.

In fact, it might work against you if the number of rooms set aside for the discount is reduced because of the total number of rooms already booked. If you book and put down a deposit, they assume your room will be filled. More rooms previously booked means fewer rooms set aside for any discounts.
