False lashes are wonderful to add definition and drama!
I wear fake lashes for special occasions and I put them on myself. I practiced quite a bit before the first event I wore them to, however. Practice is essential!
I like the individual lash clusters because you can really customize the look. These are also easier to trim, if needed. These are also more natural looking on me as I am a redhead and my real lashes are blonde. The full strips don't blend very well with with my natural lashes.
I've found that if you let the glue get a little tacky before you put them on, they stay put much better and are easier to place. Also, a good pair of point-tipped tweezers is essential in placing them! Liquid or gel eyeliner is also good for filling in the gaps between the falsies and your real lashes.
My favorite brands are Andrea or Ardell for individual lashes. You can get these at any drugstore and they are very affordable if you want to practice and play around with falsies! (Around $3 or less!) Allure magazine recently reviewed false eyelashes and they recommended these brands as well.
For full strips, I like
MAC or
Shu Umerua for really flashy ones!
Sephora also has a "
lash bar" with many different types of lashes and tools. (Click on each brand to show more options than are displayed.) The salespeople at Sephora are usually very helpful and knowledgeable and will help you apply them. (I wore the black rounded feather lashes by Make Up For Ever for my recent 25th birthday party. Sometimes it is fun to be over-the-top!)
I do recommend trying different styles and practicing until you feel comfortable. Patience is essential, too. Hope that helps and good luck!
