Finishing up a great trip by being stuck at the airport. I will do trip report later, but I have a question for anyone at DL today. Anyone see the fake character group offering free photos outside the park today? Is that common? Is it legal? They were totally yelling and obnoxious trying to get us to take pictures with some people dressed up in really bad character costumes.

Probably a copyright infringement to be sure. :confused3

Definitely not legal !! I'm sure they wouldnt have lasted long before being asked to move on

I've heard that the union "protests" sometimes bring out people in character costumes...gets them attention.

I put protest in quotes because from what I've read, the union is acting for the union, NOT for the union members. That Disney keeps putting offers out there, the members are good with them, but the union refuses. And holds these protests, sometimes with people they have *hired*.

Of course, people see the protests and don't want to cross the picket line, and innocent vacationers are faced with moral dilemmas...

But from what I've read, it's not a "real" picketing, and if the union would just listen to their members it could be done.

So that's what I thought of when I read your post, b/c I remember reading a news article or two where loud obnoxious "protesters" were wearing cheapie Cinderella and other character costumes...

I saw that on the news. "Snow White" and "Mickey" were getting arrested.

I've never seen people dress up as characters trying to get pictures outside the parks. Is this along Harbor Blvd? Like right outside the main entrance?

OMG those union protests were going on durring my last trip a year and a half ago... Have they not come to an agreement yet? If not.... They need new union reps!

From what I've read, management and the employees agree, but the union itself doesn't! It sounds really really awful.

While this is all true for the most part, I don't think that was the case in this situation.

Generally, Local 11's shenaningans involve a lot of screaming, yelling and getting oneself arrested, not so much solicitation, lol.

They were passing out flyers INSIDE DL when I was there (beginning of December). I didn't get a flyer, but we were eating at Carnation Cafe and the family next to us had one and she said "it's something with a union".

I was surprised how long it took for Security to come and ask these people to leave. Security didn't confiscate the flyers, but they were talking to them for a good 10 minutes (while these people were still handing guests the flyers!) until they started escorting them towards Town Square. I'm not sure if they made them leave the park or what. But that was the first time I've seen and heard of the union actually going inside the park.

I had not heard of this before. Thats crazy and a little funny, I mean not the fact that they can't come to an agreement or anything, just the fact of thinking about people dressed up in horrible disney costumes acting like idiots... anyways, hope they stop doing that, it would be terrible for anyone to actually believe that they were real or something!!!

I could be wrong, but I was under the impression that the union striking was actually just the hotel (or hotels?) union--either the Disneyland Hotel itself or all the Disney hotels. So pestering people in and around the PARK seems a bit much to me. Obviously they dress as characters in a bid for attention, though.

I've seen them on West Street, right adjacent to the GC entrance & near the back of Mulholland Madness.
