Fairy Godmailer ?? for those who have done it

I am going to be sending out some cards on my trip and just wanted to be sure I know what I am doing! (I know others have posted this question and it seems to have gotten lost in the Fairy Godmailer thread)

Do I just send a postcard with a message like "See you soon"? Do I sign it with the character name? I think I read somewhere that you can get them signed at the hotels?

What are some messages you have written? How many have you sent on your trip? Is there a number that you think is too many to get done?

We did it for someone back in November. DW wrote a personalized message to the recipient ("_______, we are so happy you are coming to see us in ______....."). DW then signed it using the name of a favorite character; she looked at the sig in one of our autograph books and matched it.
