My DD9 has been taking some short cuts in the shower, she doesn't like to wash her face in the shower. I was thinking it is probably time to buy her special bath products to entice her to keep good habits.

I don't want to buy her teen acne cream or anything harsh. She loves the American Girl body washes, do they make facial soap? Is there something else for little girls?

Bath & Body no longer carry the American Girl line, but they do have something for kids, not sure if they have a special facial cleanser. I started DD with Mary Kay cleanser, but if her skin is clear you could probably just buy Noxema or Clean & Clear.

My girls are 10 and 12, they also take shortcuts. To get them to wash their faces, I got them the neutrogena wave, because it is "cutesy" they always wash - imagine that. It can be expensive and the pads are expensive but hey it works so it is worth every penny in my book.

DD10 uses the Cetaphil facial cleanser, which is very gentle. But she also likes to take shortcuts and I can't vouch for how often she actually uses it!

I hate washing my face in the shower too. I hate a wet face in the shower.

This is my routine: I put on a shower cap. I wash my face in the bathroom sink first, dry it off, then jump in the shower & wash the rest of me.

I wash my hair every other day, which is the reason for the shower cap. Even on the days I wash my hair, I still wear a shower cap at first. I shower my body first, wash my face, strip off the shower cap, then wash my hair last. By that time, my whole head is wet so it doesn't feel icky to have a wet face and it's not for long. Since I use conditioner, I go over my back again for a couple seconds with soap, so I don't have conditioner residue on my back.

It sounds convoluted and complicated, but it really works for me. It's easy to make a habit and only takes a couple seconds longer than I suppose washing from the head down.

My DD's will be 11 in a few days. They have never used "soap" on their face. They started off using Purpose, now we use Clinique ( all three steps in #1).

Mary Kay has a great 3 in 1 facial cleanser. It has everything she needs in it, and it's so easy to use!

We had to start this with our 10 year old last year. I looked everywhere and tried so many products but most dried his face out. We finally found a cream cleanser at Bath & Body Works that works great! It doesn't have a smell and is great for combination skin. It has a green label. I'm at work right now, so I'm not sure of the exact name. I think we pay around $12. It's a little pricey but it works good with his skin. I'll pay $12 to secure his confidence. Good luck!

I used to use Noxema all through my 20's. I even got the generic drugstore brands once I realised they were the exact same thing for about $2.95. But, as I got to my 30's my skin started changing & Noxema just wasn't working anymore.

A friend gave me a sample of Origins Mint Wash. It's for combination skin. It's very gentle, yet removes makeup easily. I loved it. I went & bought a bottle and found it was $12 a bottle. That's a huge jump from $3. But my friend said the $12 is an investment in my face for the long term. So it was worth it. I still use it over a decade later, (now at $16/bottle,) and I haven't had problems with my face because of it. As it turns out, one bottle lasts about 3-4 months so the price is barely more that a tub of Noxema. A little goes a long way. I use a half pump each wash. :thumbsup2

I would suggest either Cetaphil or Cerave cleansers. She is at that age where she will be starting to get a few break outs here and there and she needs something that will be non-comedogenic (non acne causing). Both products suggested are gentle enough for a pre-teen.

Another vote for Cetaphil. I have sensitive skin and it is the best, the cheapest and the gentlest. I mix it with some baking soda to make a great )and cheap) exfoliator, but she won't need that for a while.

Please have her follow up wtih some kind of oil free moisturizer! Although Cetaphil is not harsh enough to strip all the oil off her skin, everyone needs to keep their skin moisurized!

I use a Eucerin face wash that's very gentle. When I was your DD's age I used a Dove face wash, but I don't know if they make it anymore. The Dove sensitive skin beauty bar is actually very gentle and I use it sometimes on my face, if she'd prefer a bar vs. a cleanser. I like the Dove bars. They seem classy with their curvy shape. :)

Aveeno Positively Radiant Daily Cleansing pads. They are pre-moistened pads that come in a little tub. You wash with them then throw it away. ...and you can buy them at the grocery store. Aveeno also make a positively radiant daily moisturizer with SPF.

I use the Mary Kay 3 in 1, very quick easy to use and gentle. I have to put a vote in for my all time favorite beauty product that is a must to get in the habit!
Eucerin Facial moisturizer! It has SPF 15, not greasy at ALL, and will protect their skin.

I would suggest using honey. I've been cleaning my face with honey for months now and my skin has never looked better. I take my eye makeup off with coconut oil and then use the honey all over my face before getting in the shower. I leave it on while washing my hair and everything, rinsing the honey off last. It's a humectrant so it seals in moisture and I use a little bit of coconut oil also as a moisturizer if needed. (I've rarely had to use moisturizer all summer on my face). I use it as a conditioner on my hair when it's really dry and I also put it on my ds's skin, on his eczema before he gets into the bathtub. Sounds crazy but it works. It doesn't leave your hair or skin a sticky mess either, rinses clean away.

wow, didnt know they started using these types of products so young. mine is 9 and will be 10 in Feb. She just uses soap. I told her to wash her face daily and hopefully its setting in with her. I did buy her the AG book about your body and taking care of it.

My oldest turns 10 next month, and I was just thinking I needed to get her started on some sort of routine; so this post is very timely for me.

As far as using these so young, I guess it really just depends on the child. My oldest has been wearing deodorant and a bra for quite a while too; but when they need it, they need it. Ive also noticed that I should get her a razor or something to help with the leg/underarm hair.
