I have both Myspace and Facebook.
My parents are aware of Facebook (not sure about myspace, I konw they don't want me to have it, but it's private. My friends are bands, and DISers that i trust) and don't care.
the only thing about facebook, is I'm not allowed to have anything that might get me in trouble with school or with work.
Facebook is pretty safe, you can control basically everything. You can everything set on private. You can have some things private except for friends, and then some other things to private except for friends and their friends (or network).
Mine is set to all private. I've never had any troubles with it at all, I didn't really ask my parents if I oculd have it, but they don't mind.
And my friends can make comments... but I can delete those.

When people add you, you have a choice of 'Accept, Limited profile and block'
