but what is facebook ??
I have absolutely no clue.. is it popular with the high school teens ?

Facebook is like a "My Space" for College Students.
I think you need to have a college e-mail acct in order to use it. I can ask my daughter when she gets home for more info if you would like. She has one through her school e-mail.

Facebook is actually open to everyone now, not just college students. It's still taking off in high schools, and doesn't seem to be quite as popular yet with the high school (or general public) crowd as it is with college students, but it is getting more popular. My 16 year old sister just got one about a month ago...

I must be something new. Do you know how to get a Facebook page being a High School Student? That is why I thought it was just for College students because I also have a Son in High School who said he cannot do facebook because you need a College e-mail address. He is just 15, and I really do not want him to do the My Space thing because all of his friends seem to get themselves into trouble on there. Maybe FaceBook would be a bit "milder".

Facebook actually preceded MySpace (I think, or it was around the same time), but MySpace expanded globally much faster than Facebook did. Facebook was originally open only to college students, and allows easy networking among students, staff, and faculty. Often there is stalking at college on it, which is why I basically never used it. It's very popular with underclassmen though.

It's basically Myspace, but with very little customization options. You originally had to have a college e-mail address to register, which prevents made up profiles and people lying about who they are.

I use facebook way more than myspace, it's far less obnoxious and it's a great way to keep in contact with your friends.

All you need is an email for facebook now. It's better than myspace at times but at times it drives me bonkers.
