Ok - I had avoided FB, Twitter, et al. No interest until Disney started giving away an MP3 download every day for 50 days.

I am still not interested in the minutiae of the lives of everyone I know, never mind all the people they know and so on and so on. (Please do not take offense if you like FB...it is just not for me!)

Soooo, my questions are

If I get a friend request, does it always mean the person sent it themselves, or does facebook sometimes send them based on the fact that we have a mutual friend? I am talking about the actual requests that come in your email, not the things that say you have x mutual friends.

Can I avoid having all the things on my wall that are posted by people who are friends of my friends, but that I have not friended scared1: ridiculous isn't it!!!!)

All I want to do is get my free disney downloads and play scrabble with my ds

I'm not an expert, but rather a fellow reticent user.

I accept friend "requests," but never friend "suggestions." You just have to look at carefully at the wording. I put everything pretty private choosing "friends only" or none and never "friends of friends."

I accept everyone I know, but "hide" them (a little button off to the side) if they are not close friends or family. I enjoy looking at my wall, but not at the horoscope or games of someone I haven't known since 6th grade. You can also hide specific games and apps if you see they are cluttering your wall and you aren't interested.

Only an individual can send a friend request. FB can suggest that you become friends, but will never send a friend request.

Only things that your friends post will show up on your page. Not anything that friends of friends post.
