if you block someone, do they get a message stating that they have been blocked? can they tell? (in this case, not a "friend" but rather someone from my past that keeps sending me messages via facebook)

I am wondering the same thing. I accepted a friend invitation and now wish I hadn't....every time I log on and have to see what this person is up to is making me want to gag!

No, I don't think they do. I'm not sure whether it keeps them from seeing you at all or just doesn't give them the option to message you, but I think it looks to them like you aren't on there any longer. People don't get notified when you delete them as friends, either, though they might notice when you vanish from their list.

no they dont get any messages. They just go away.

They may do a friend search later on and notice but otherwise there is no notification.

From what I understand, when you "unfriend" someone tthey receive no notification of that. They will no longer have you on their list of friends. I'm not sure on the blockinig thing, though. You can look up common questions on the site....there's a lot about unfriending and blocking

You can limited whose information comes up on your news feed. You can opt for more info, or less info.:)

You can also opt to see less information about them.

There was a guy who was strange in high school who recently me to be a friend...and I started to ignore the request but then thought it might be rude.

The guy apparently works for some sort of gym and talks about his daily workouts on his FB. He has a painted on tan and freaky eyes. He's just odd all around. Now I get fewer of his updates but don't have to eliminate him altogether...because he's probably the kind of guy who keeps a daily count of how many friends he has.

:rotfl2: I have a few of those. It nauseating! Do people REALLY think we want to know what they are doing all day, every day? I've had to click the "see less about this person" a few times myself. One I want to remove all together.

I love hearing what people are up to. (I like Christmas newsletters, too.) But then most of my facebook friends are people I know that have the same interests that I do.

No people aren't notified when you unfriend them or choose to see less of their info.

They are also not notified if you block them. You simply disappear to them and they to you. It is a two way street. If you have mutual friends you will not see their comments to those friends and they won't see yours.

A small exception is the iPhone app. I can't get to their pages but I can occasionally read a photo comment by users I have blocked.
