Facebook help needed

I just joined Facebook last week. I've spent the week trying to learn privacy settings, etc. before posting anything. Last night I posted my first status update. I also requested a very good friend from high school as my friend, and he accepted.

Today I was looking through my high school friend's list of friends. My status is coming up by my picture on his list of friends! I went to several of my other friends, checked their friend list, and same thing - my status from last night is coming up next to my picture on their friend list. How do I remove this? I have been through the privacy settings again and again and can't figure out how this happened.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Well, actually, I don't believe you can remove or delete your status. You can only delete the comments you make about your own or someone else's status. I've had quite a few friends get into some major trouble, both professionally and personally, because they wrote a status the could not be deleted, and they didn't know that.

ETA: Basically, all you can do is write a new status and that will be by your picture (if you don't like what you're status says), but otherwise, you can't just get rid of it.

Are we talking about the status box that comes up right at the top of your page? Like "Patsy ******* : ...." and you type in whatever you want?

You can delete those. Hover to the right of it and a box will pop up that says "Remove"

im one of those people who got in trouble with the status box. Who knew my boss waas reading a coworkers profile... A little creative lying saved my butt!

You can set yourself to hidden so only those on your friends list will see you.

Dr. Phil said he told his kids not to write anything on the internet that their grandparents couldn't read. As well, don't write anything you wouldn't published as a newspaper heading.

Status always comes up beside your picture on your friends' lists. If you don't want it there, you have to change your status or clear your status by going into your own profile and clicking "clear" beside your name and status.

Where on the profile page is this? I don't see anything that says "clear". I know I sound like an idiot - I'm a total newbie to this.

BTW, I didn't write anything inappropiate - I just don't want writing appearing next to my name of my friends' list of friends (if that makes any sense).

Go into your profile page. To make sure you are in your profile page, look at the very top where is says
FACEBOOK HOME PROFILE FRIENDS INBOX YOURNAME SETTINGS LOGOUT

Click on yourname.

That should get you into your profile page. You should see your name up beside your picture. Beside your name should be your status. Then in little print it should say when you posted that and beside that, the word clear. Just click clear.

I THINK (I am not 100% sure) that you are only seeing it because you are you. I don't think it is actually showing up to his friends. I have noticed when I have sent friend requests to others by finding them through friends that I can't see their status at all until they add me as a friend. Then I can see their status no matter who's friend list I am looking at. Same with Profile pic, you can set it so that NOBODY can see it --they get that standard blue box with white shape, until you friend them. Then their photo will show up all the time.

Does that make sense?

YES. This is correct. You are only seeing your status on his friend list because you're you. If you look at the rest of his friends, you can't see their status unless they are your friend, too, or they have an open profile (in other words, you don't have to friend them to read their profile).

So don't worry...it's not for all of Facebook to see unless you have it set for everyone to see
