Facebook Hacking!

I am really unimpressed at the moment, so please forgive me.

My 16 year old DD facebook account has been hacked, and someone has posted some horrible things.

Apparently, my DD likes kiddie porn, and my mum is dead!:sad1::sick: My DSis rang DD really upset as facebook had sent the message to her phone, and she thought it was true about mum.

The worst bit is, that she thinks it might be someone she knows, as who else could have gotten onto it?

Someone has downloaded facebook for mobiles, and is posting these horrible things from their phone.

She has changed her password, and facebook suspended the account for suspected hacking, but if they are using a mobile that has been linked to her account what happens now? Do they manage to stop the phone number involved using the account, or are we going to get more of this horrible stuff?

I'm not 100% sure but a password change should stop this. Mobile apps etc still need a user name and password at some point - they often save them for ease of use but if you change your password you normally have to update the app with your new password.

Sorry this has happened to your daughter.

The extra problem may be if the Facebook account is linked to her email address and the hacker knows that password too. My son was hacked and so was his email account as he had the same password for both.:headache: It was done by a (now ex) friend of his - I posted it on here at the time.
It took a couple of days to be sorted.
In the meantime, if your daughter has a friend who could text/email/FB message all her other friends along the lines of "Pay no attention to things posted by Sid74Dtr as her account has been hacked" it would help.

This happened to my older DD. Someone hacked her account and posted she was in England and had had an accident and needed cash. Her friends were suspicious and phone my DD. They then engaged the hacker in a dialogue and busted him. Face book did all the appropriate steps to reinstate her account but no one knew how he got in.

Thank you for all your thoughts and information.

I remember when your sons account got hacked Hildasmuriel. I have posted on facebook about it not being DD who is posting, that she has been hacked.

She has changed her email account password at the time of changing her facebook one, so I hope that this is all over with.:confused3

password change should stop it, (next time the phone logs in it will prompt)
use something that they wouldn't guess, ie flick to a random page of the dictionary,

it would be wise for your daughter to change all her passwords that are identical to the facebook one asap,

This is one of the thinngs that concernes me about FB. I am a youth worker and it seem's to happen so often to Children.....the ones I work with call it 'Facebook Rape'

The other think that alarms me is the amount of so called friends some children have. One girl I work with has over 800, theres no way in the world she knows all of them...they could be anyone!!!!

It worries me:sad2:

Well, it happened again last night! She got a call from a friend asking why she was saying some really awful stuff in chat. We had a look, and it was terrible. Really horrible things.

My DH who is a computer bod had a look at it. It took over an hour to try and change email addresses and passwords, as somehow the one that we had reset only a few hours earlier had been compromised.:confused3

It turns out that she had been hacked twice before a day earlier and nobody noticed, people were thinking she was being mean to them:scared1:

Someone has apparently downloaded facebook for iphones in her name, from her account, as well as facebook for mobiles.:confused3

We reported it to facebook, and I am hoping it is all fixed now. We went through and tried to delete all the nasty stuff that had been written on peoples walls, but the really horrible stuff all seemed to be written in chat, and there is no way of getting rid of that, that I am aware of.

Her friend did post last night that she had been hacked and to ignore what was being written, so at least some of her friends know what happened, but you just don't know how much damage has been done.:confused3

She supposedly said some of the worst stuff to a really good friend that has had a terrible time lately, a family tragedy and a breakdown in the last month or so, he kind of figured out it wasn't her, but the things that were said to him must have been upsetting.

It makes me want to find out who did it and give them a good hiding, as my grandma used to say.

Oh thats terrible news, I hope you manage to get it sorted sid:goodvibes

Myself and my daughters had a whole page on facebook made about us!!! They managed to get into our photos and deface them - luckily the girls thought it was quite funny, and not many people joined the group, so it was contained and eventually deleted after a week. I was more upset because of what they had suggested i had done with someone in a pool in Ibiza!! Because me and my daughter spend time in Ibiza without my husband it was all rather worrrying!..i thought he might begin to believe what they had written.

Hope everything is sorted...f/b is good in someways but very bad in others.

What an awful thing to happy, hopefully you have finally got it sorted out :goodvibes

It took me a long time to get into the FB world as was so scared about privacy etc but this whole hacking is so scary. One thing I have discovered on FB is how annoying one of my sis in laws is

It's getting increasingly worrying the hacking into facebook at the moment a lot of which seem to be linked to facebook mobile or Iphone. My bf's facebook got hacked in August and they started to send out event's to people about winning blackberry's and Iphone's luckily he went on and saw it and stopped his account straight away and warned all friends his account was hacked.

Wonder if it could be linked into hotmail? Seem to get so many account hacks on that these days from people getting into friend's accounts etc.

These are hacks of a personal nature. It is someone your child knows, or at least knows someone your child knows.

change the password for the email account associated with the facebook account, then change the facebook account password.

Then tell your daughter NOT to log into face book at friends houses, libraries etc etc etc.

The commercial hackers don't try to alienate people.. they use the accounts as product farms for games (to sell virtual game items commercially) and to use social engineering to promote a product or service that no one really wants, but might be interested in because a "friend" recommends it.

I am betting that DD prolly expressed interest in a boy that another girl likes, and this is payback..

Girlsontour that is hideous!

It is horrible to know that this seems to happen quite a bit, but that something still hasn't been done to stop it.

i have had someone brake into my account by mobile, all i did was going to my profile and stopped anyone using a mobile on facebook.
and after that kept changing my password, 1 thing to check, what internext security like as you could have a virus, ect.
