Face covering enforcement

I am all for staying safe and following the rules, but if 5,000 in one park does not have face coverings, how is Disney going to enforce this requirement? You cannot haul everyone out? Just a thought as we will be going soon.

Most people who are not complying will start to comply if they see that people are being ejected for noncompliance. You could equally ask what would happen if 5,000 people lit up a cigarette.
This. Your example is the best one that's I've seen so far.

2nd hand smoke rules and restrictions have been in place for many years and have become acceptable. So will mask wearing for health and safety purposes until this pandemic is over. Until then, I'm confident Disney will identify 'rest areas' where physical distancing can be readily achieved and no masks will be enforced.

I’m not sure what enforcement will be like since there will be times when people may be walking around eating and drinking. So it’s not as cut and dry as smoking. I think the best thing you can do is just follow the rules yourself and try not to worry about what others are doing.

Are you one that will be challenging this park policy of WDW?

In my opinion, they need to be very strict on enforcing it early and set the precedent that not adhering to this rule will have consequences. They have been way too lax on some rule enforcement in the past in my opinion but this is one that can actually potentially impact someones health significantly.

You asked this in another thread. As I said there, I'll mention that Disney already announced that certain CMs' sole task will be to stroll the parks monitoring mask compliance & social distancing. It's very easy for a CM to see who is not wearing a mask (easier than to see if a guest is breaking almost any other rule btw), so refusers can be easily singled out and dealt with.

Most guests at Disney follow rules. The few who don't will be gently corrected, then asked/made to leave if they persist.

It's that simple. Disney contracted with their labor unions that guests will have to wear masks, so it's going to be enforced.

Don’t know if they have or haven’t already decided to do this but they should add the rule that if you want to eat or drink anything you must be seated somewhere to do so. No walking around eating and drinking anything. With the reduced capacity there should be no problem finding a spot to enjoy your snacks. This rule should also stop those looking to get around the mask rule by walking with a drink in their hands at all times. If you are up walking around or on an attraction you have your mask on.

If 5,000 people refuse to wear face coverings, Disney will have a very difficult time enforcing the requirement. Have you thought about 10,000 in one park not following the requirement? Just imaging trying to enforce that...

there won’t be 5000 people in non compliance. Maybe 500. or 50. But they have already stated you will be instructed to comply and repeated refusal will result in being kicked out with no refund.
and they have the security team to back up that threat.

if you are going to be a selfish SOB and refuse to wear a mask( properly), save yourself the hassle and stay home. The rest of the country thanks you

They have a lot of extra CMs right now called back and they have a brand new position, the incredi-crew, they will be walking around making sure everyone stays within the rules. That's not to say we won't see people not wearing the masks properly or getting to close in a queue, we all, politely can remind the person to please wear it correctly. No need to get angry or rude, just a nudge, most will comply
Disney will be very strict about this as the whole reopening and staying open depends on it
SW's first day was a disaster, so many people not wearing the masks, it was all over social media, I went yesterday again and most were wearing and I even saw managers asking people that weren't to put them on
I just don't understand those that still knowing the rules would come, spend money and break them, it makes no sense to me

I absolutely agree with this! It would make things so much easier to enforce the mask requirement also.

I’m not sure where you’re from, but my area saw one of the early waves of COVID19, and mask compliance is really high, even among people who don’t want to wear them. When everyone else is doing something, there’s a psychological pressure to do it too.

Anecdote: I was waiting for a take out order to be ready on Friday. Everyone was wearing masks. Guy showed up to get his pizza with no mask, looked around at everyone, and immediately pulled up his t-shirt over his mouth and nose. One of the restaurant employees asked, “do you have a mask?” Guy sheepishly muttered, “no, just this,” and kept his shirt over his mouth and nose through the whole transaction of paying and taking his pizza with his free hand.

I have also overheard people complaining about how stupid wearing masks in public is, but doing so while they were wearing masks in public. They might not “believe in” it, but they do it because it’s become a social expectation. I think that pressure to comply will be there at Disney, too, and mass rebellions simply won’t happen.

The truth is, if 10000 people show up to enjoy the Magic Kingdom, 95+% of us are aware of the requirement and will be following it. The folks who don't wish to wear them on Disney property at this time should stay home until the situation improves and masks are no longer required. Most people understand the need for social distancing and masks at this time, and are willing to follow the directive for the health and safety of others. If someone at Disney opts to not wear the mask because they don't "feel like it", cast members AND other guests will likely let them know about it. Some people will be going to Disney only because others are required to wear masks, and expect people to do so. And since masks are a contractual requirement and also a legal requirement now, guests should expect to follow the directive.

Exactly! Florida has much more COVID19 transmission right now than my state. The only thing that has me still planning to go on my August trip is the high rate of compliance being reported at Universal.

People don’t want another shut down, which is understandable. The best way to prevent that is to slow the spread by wearing masks, using good hand hygiene, and social distancing.

If there’s a mass rebellion against mask wearing at Disney, the result isn’t going to be dropping the requirement. The result will be shutting back down. Keeping Disney open depends on guests following the legal and Disney-specified safety measures.

I made a wry observation about an excessive point and it was misunderstood. This is an issue that is deeply emotional to most people and I should never make a comment about it. I know that but I did it anyway. I apologize to those of you who were upset by a statement I thought was obviously silly. To you this is a very serious subject and I did not take it seriously.
