I made this shirt for a friends daughters 1st bday:

Anyway, she wanted to wash the blank t she bought for me to put it on and I totally forgot to tell her no fabric softner. Is it too late to save the shirt? Can I just wash it again and get the fabric sfotner off?

That is a really cool design.

Yes, you should be able to wash the shirt again and use it. There are others that have used old shirts. I used an old hoodie sweatshirt. Don't use any fabric softener or dryer sheets.

Wash the shirt in the hottest water you can, double rince, and dry. Fabric softners work by deposting stuff on the fiber that repells static. Also soap works by making water more attractive then the fabric... this is a simple way of putting it, but more or less what it does. Which is why I always rince 2 - 4 times after washing with strong soap/detergent, or I rince with vinegar if I use bleach/ to much soap...
You should not have any problems putting on the design after you rewash the shirt. You might not have had any problems before, but after all that work why take the chances?

Also one of the reasons some older clothes get dirty easier or don't look clean is because soap and fabric softners can deposit stuff on the cloth that traps in scents and dirt.... which is why I only use 1/3 to 1/2 a fabric sheet when drying a large tub of laundry.

So now you know more then you wanted to ....

Thank you to both of you. I feel a lot better now. Off to do more laundry :)

I washed all of my shirts and used fabric softener on them before I ironed my designs on and they all went on fine and stayed through a few washes.
