Wow what a Mother's day it has been! At 5:30 this morning we woke up to the tornado sirens going off. A tornado touched down about 11 miles from my house. We have no damage at my house but many businesses and homes have been destroyed throughout Macon and Central Georgia. Many businesses were also looted early in the morning before police could arrive on scene, one of which is the salvation army. This is really sad that people could steal during a time like this. Also there is one fatality in Laurens Co.

The local community college that I just graduated from, Macon State College, has lost more than half of the trees on campus and four buildings have suffered damage. Two high schools and one elementary school have been damaged. The worst is the high school I graduated from.

Please could everyone pray for the Macon, Ga residents and businesses that have suffered losses. We have not suffered tornado damage like this before. I will provide a link to the local news station if anyone wants to read more about the storm.

Thank you in advance for your thoughts and prayers.

Having lived one town over when an F5 hit the neighboring town, I know the devastation. Everyone is in my thoughts and I wish a quick return to normal.

Best Wishes!

Just went through Macon yesterday afternoon after spending the weekend in Atlanta and we stopped in Macon to have lunch not realizing what had happened. It was devestating to see all that destruction and very scarey. Prayers here for all of central Ga and hope you can recover soon.

Sending prayers.I had an f3 rip thru my small town and house in Pa a few years back,So I know the devasatation and how scared you feel.

I didn't realize that Macon got hit. I don't know that it was covered on the news here. I am sure you were very scared. We had a series (think 4) come through in one afternoon about 1.5 mths ago. It is very scary. I am glad you and your family are safe.

I heard about this this morning...hugs to you! How scary! I live in a town that had an F5 about 16 years ago...destroyed our central high school and there were more than 20 deaths. That siren is the last thing you want to be woken up out of a deep sleep with. I'm glad your family is safe!

Thank you to everyone. I'm glad we are ok but I know there is a lot of people who are suffering right now. Thank you for your prayers!! Big Hugs:grouphug:

I am a Maconite currently living in Kentucky. All my family is still there and I am so thankful that GOD spared so many lives that the tornados could have taken. My thoughts and prayers remain with you.

I'm glad you are safe and there were no more fatalities. I will never forget when I was a kid and we were heading to disney we stopped in Macon because our van was having brake trouble. I remember pulling in to the garage and hearing a thick southern accent for the first time. I guess the guy new something was up because he asked me what was wrong. He then told me that I was the one with the accent in those parts. lol. We still talk about it whenever we drive through there. Lots of prayers sent your way.
