I was dreamily envisioning taking piles of dark ride photos during my upcoming visit to The World and my first thought was "use the 50mm f1.8 of course", but:
1. I don't like the 50mm at f1.8 - it's kinda soft and the depth of field is thin enough you can get a paper cut from it. I use it at f2.0 and am much happier with the results.
2. The 50mm doesn't have IS and the claim on the 17-55mm is that it has '3 stops' of IS. So doesn't that make it equivalent to an F1.4?
I.E. - instead of shooting Grim Grinning Ghosts at f1.4 and 1/60 I could shoot them at f2.8 and 1/15?
I understand that the IS doesn't help me if whatever I'm shooting is moving itself - a parade for example.
