I would like to purchase some of my favorite wines during the Food & Wine Festival. However, since airlines no longer allow liquids as carry-on and my state does not permit direct shipments of wine, I was wondering how others will get their purchases home? :drinking1

Are you (1) going to take a chance and place bottles in your checked luggage; (2) write down your favorites and order from a store when you get home; (3) something else?

Looking for ideas. TIA!

Its a shame there is no carry on allowed. I was hoping to bring some bottles back to the UK but now I will have to drink it all whilst in Orlando. I will be the one doing this round the parks ;) :dance3:

Although home is only a short drive away now, we have found that most wines and "spirits" can be found outside of WDW. We also found this to be true before we moved to Florida.

In fact, you might find them less expensive elsewhere.

An example (not a F&W related one):

One trip to the California Grill in 2000, I had a cordial, that was an 8 year old rum. Just an ounce of it in a short glass. It cost $10. Do the math and that would be $250 for the bottle. I found the same bottle of rum in the NH liquor store for $34.

But to answer the question, if I were in the same situation, I would probably pack some extra large ziplock bags and put the wine bottles in those, then pad them with clothes in my checked luggage.

And if you can't find something locally, ask. If you're willing to buy a case, many liquor stores will special-order the wine for you (and possibly give you a case discount)

2 years ago, I bought a bottle of Rosa Regal at Epcot, and put it in my checked luggage... It was fine. The CM at the store put some bubblewrap around it when I told her I was going back to Montreal, Canada. She was great! :woohoo:

I'm not sure if you can take them on the plane or not. I would maybe check with the airlines, but I DO know that I had heard on the DIS last year that I could find the Banfi Rosa Regali in local stores including Sam's. I have been looking all year and have not found it anywhere, so I will be purchasing this at Disney in October. I would not necessarily count on finding it elsewhere if you find it is allowable on the planes. I'm SURE it depends on where you live. Fortunately, we drive, so the traveling is not a problem.

I've packed many a bottle of wine in my checked luggage. I actually just came back, from Canada with 2 bottles in my checked bag.

If you will be getting it at disney, make sure to mention that you will be taking it home so that they can put extra wrapping on it (they will also most likely put it in a box). Also ask for a couple of extra bags. Wrap the bottle/box in the extra bags before you pack it. Place it in the middle of your luggage as that will be the most padded area. If you have a jacket or a pair of jeans, wrap it in that too. Make sure that it won't have a lot of space to move/jostle around and you should be fine.

Wendy1953- Unfortunately, various states don't allow you to ship wine. Florida is one of them and so is Kentucky (just to name a few).

It really is very sad!
