Eyeliner recommendation??

Glimmersticks from Avon! I now have them in every color. I was convinced after I had spent a day on the beach and my eyeliner still looked awesome.

I am a big fan of smashbox eye make up (I get Revlon for everything else and maybelline or covergirl mascara) but I really like the smashbox, its a little expensive but hear me out.

I usually get their items when they have a deal, one Christmas I asked fiance to order me a set that had I think 30 some odd eyeshadows and 3 nice brushes for $50. AND if you order from them on Tues or Thurs from I think its 10-2 pacific time, you get a HUGE free sample of something and if your a member of their pretty points club you get a small sample of something too. I think they usually have a free shipping deal going on too.

Anywho back to the eyeliner, I ordered their liquid eyeliner last week, got it today in the mail and its awesome! I love it! I ordered the burlesque collection (from the new movie coming out) it was $35 and I got the eyeliner, 4 eye shadows, a lose shadow, and 2 lip glosses. I also got the free gift which was 4 more highlighter eye shadows.
their website is smashbox.com, sephora also sells them but through smashbox's website you'll get the free gifts on those 2 days.

Ok, rave over lol, I just got so excited today when I got it in the mail, like a kid in a candy store and I had to share!

I would recommend using an eyeshadow primer (something like Benefit's Lemonaide) and a translucent power to set the liner. I've had the same problems before because I have oily skin and this usually does the trick.

I use a CoverGirl brown liner for the bottom lash line and Benefit's BadGal for the top.

I just use regular bar soap to remove my makeup. I have very oily skin so that may be my problem.

The bar soap may actually be causing the oily skin or making it worse. when you over-dry the skin with too strong of a cleanser, the body reacts by putting out more oil in response.

Try Origin's Mint Wash. Ask for a sample of it at one of the Origin counters or stores. I've used it for years. I have combo skin, but break out like you wouldn't believe. It's gentle, equalizes the skin, and takes off makeup really well. It's also pricey at $18 a bottle. But, one bottle lasts me about 6 months.

Can I piggyback this question?

I rarely wear make-up so not very good with it! I also need to find a good eyeliner that stays on through sweat and possible eye-rubbing, but also one that goes on easily. It's for my dd for dance. We've been using a Maybelline twist-up pencil thingy, but she hates make-up even more than I do, so I put it on her, and I just can't seem to get enough pressure to get it on well, without her screaming and crying that I'm poking her in the eye! We've tried liquids, but I can't seem to figure out how to get them on in a nice line - they go on way too thick. Are the gels better than pencils as far as going on easily? (and hopefully easier for a makeup dummy to use?)

Also, this year they gave us loose powder eyeshadow. It's always been pressed powder before. I'm getting way too much on the brush. I dip the tip of the brush in, then tap it on the side a bit to get the extra off, but I'm still getting some dropping off the brush onto her cheeks! If I try to get less on the brush, it's too little, and doesn't even show up on her eyelid. Any advice there?

Thanks so much!

I love Urban Decay's 24/7 Glide On Eye Pencils

They stay on through ANYTHING. Even swimming. They are very creamy and glide on soo smoothly. They come in lots of bright funky colors but they also have basic colors.

The downside is they are very expensive (I think around $18 each) but they last forever...I got a set of half-sized pencils for Christmas a few years ago and they are still going strong. :thumbsup2

This. I love Urban Decay liners. And they will last a long time. I also bought one of the half sized sets and I still have lots left (and have bought more colors in full size).

I used to have oily skin and now it's super dry but my lids are still oily. Go figure. Anyway the best thing I've found for keeping shadows and liners on and prevent creasing is MAC paint. There's at least one similar to skintone (well I'm fair and it worked for me). I am currently using Urban Decay Primer Potion and while it has a huge following I don't think it can touch MAC Paint (not the Paint Pot) for wearability.

You may find no liners will stay without a primer on your lids. I have that problem.

I've seen women take the Maybelline eyeliners and hold a lit match underneath for a few seconds to soften the eyeliner enough to make it soft and smudgeable.

But, my favorite eyeliner for years has been Revlon's Colorstay. It is soft, allows a several seconds to smudge & blend, then sinks in & sticks to the skin like a Sharpie permanent marker once it sets on bare skin. It is waterproof until you take it off with soap & water.

It's on sale this week at Rite Aid.

I'm certainly no expert but it sounds like you're using Bare Escentuals, or something similar.

If you're putting your brush right into the color, that may be part of the problem. If you have a lid that comes off, put a little of the color into the lid, swirl your brush around in that, then tap it several times on the side so the excess falls back into the lid. If you're doing that and still having problems, tap the end of your brush (with the bristles facing up) on a hard surface and it should help trap some of the color within the brush.

If she's wearing foundation you can try putting it on after you do her eye makeup.

I only use pencil liners so I can't speak of different types of liners, but if you use a pencil, make sure it's creamy. The Urban Decay is, but may be too pricey for what you need it for. Sephora's brand is also really nice and priced reasonably. I don't typically use drug store brands only because I like trying them on before buying so I'm no help there.

You might also want to try an eyeshadow primer. It will help the color build up easily and stay on, especially if she's performing.

I'll have to give the Colorstay a try. Oh and you brought me back to my high school days with the match trick! I'd forgotten all about that.

This is for both you and the OP... I really like the eyeliner markers from both Physicians Formula (1st choice) and Cover Girl (2nd) --They're literally markers that you use for eyeliner... They seem to last quite a while on me, and I don't have problem with smearing either, which is nice.. Once it's dry, it's set.

As far as the loose powder, it might be BE, like someone said... that's what I wear all of the time, and in all my other makeup... (sometimes in eyeliner) -- and whether it is or isn't, here's a tip I got from their makeup artists... If you're putting on eye shadow, or eye liner, and are concerned about it falling down under your eyes, then put some excess powder beneath your eyes (in their case, it'd be the Mineral Veil-- but regular loose powder does the same thing) -- Put it down below your eyes before putting on the shadow or liner that will drop... get it set just the way you want, and then use a big fluffy brush to sweep away the excess powder below your eye.. nice and clean! See if that doesn't help that problem.

And, if it is Bare Escentuals, then you've gotta "swirl, tap & buff" -- lol.. like the PP said.. put a little in the cap, swirl your brush around, tap off the excess and then put on the makeup... sometimes it's better to do it lightly, and a few times-- to get the right amount, then end up looking like a clown b/c you've got too much. Makeup and cooking are a lot alike, you can always keep adding seasoning (or color) - but once you've got too much, ain't nothin' you can do but start over!!

I do this and it really works. :thumbsup2

Also, I find mineral/loose shadows don't stick at all unless I use some kind of primer. Urban Decay Primer Potion is pretty much the holy grail, but it may be a little expensive for someone who doesn't regularly wear makeup and only needs it for this event.

I like the Cover Girl Pencils. I don't know the exact name, but they have the blending tip on the other end. I've used tons of different kinds, but these are my favorite.

Ditto here, BUT, I have recently started using a make up primer, and WOW, what a difference it makes, especially with eyeshadow & liner.
