Ok - I figure you guys are the experts. I tried using eyelets for the first time at a Stampin' Up party and I liked them. I had been intimidated by them before. I thought there were front parts and back parts... :goodvibes Anyway, so now I want t be able to use them for scrapbooking and card making. What do I need to buy and what kind are the best/cheapest/easiest type of eyelets to buy? I figure I need some kind of mat to pound on, some kind of setting tool, a hammer, a tiny hole punch, and eyelets. Is that it? Any hints on eyelets? Thanks!

Making Memories has a nice kit that you can get at Michael's. If you want to save more money wait until they have a 40% off coupon. As for the eyelets, some companies are "softer" and easier to use, IMO. I like the Making Memories ones.
Edited to add- This kit is for the one-piece eyelets. I haven't used the ones that are 2 pieces, but are they like snaps and don't need a tool? :confused3

Basic Tools Needed:

Eyelet Hold Punch (Usually a long "stick" with a hole at the end)
Eyelet Setter (Long stick with a point on the end)
Hammer
Safe Location (I use a piece of board- others like the mats or others use concrete)
Eyelets- Ive found that Doodlebug has some nice softer ones- I also use Making Memories

As for setters and punchs- I have the doodlebug set and its nice- Provo Craft also makes a decent one and here they sell it in a set with a hammer and other tools for about 20 bucks (and its 40% worthy) I also have the Provo Craft Silent Setter and where I love it to make holes of different sizes easily- I do NOT like it for setting eyelets- I dont know if its just me... But I cant get it to set them easily or right...

I highly recommend the silent setter! This is awesome. It comes with everything you need for about $20. No hammer needed, it's quiet, simple and SILENT! It comes with 3 hole punches and 3 setters, the tool, and the mat. :) Best yet it comes in it's own little zipper pouch to keep things from getting lost.

I got the Making Memories tool kit on sale for ~ half off at Michaels some time after Christmas. When I priced the pieces separately I figured I'd just go ahead & get the kit even though I didn't really need all the pieces.

Since then I've tried the Silent Setter at ACMoore & I have to say I'm awfully glad I didn't get one. I have a problem with my shoulder (bursitis or something) & the twisting required to set an eyelet really hurt. I don't mind the noise of the hammer technique either...no napping children & I don't scrap late at night. ;)

So far I've found the easiest to set were ones I got from Eyelet Outlet. It makes perfect sense as these are the lightest weight ones I have. The hardest so far were the Making Memories ones - they're a heavy weight. I'm talking about comparison only - I've had no trouble setting any of them. Some just take an extra tap or two with the hammer. ;)

I absolutely LOVE my Silent Setter but I do scrap at night when the baby is asleep. The only ones that I have had trouble setting with this are the Making Memories ones. I can do it, but it takes a lot more effort.
