Would someone please tell me how this can possibly work to the patients satisfaction?

I desperately need to get a new pair of glasses (for distance - as well as bifocals)..

I have read here on the BB that people get their eyes examined, get the script, and then order glasses by mail..

I don't understand how this can be done.. First of all, you don't have the glass frames to "try on"..

Secondly, after I have chosen a frame, they need to put the frame on my face and measure exactly where the bifocal part should begin and end..

Last - but not least - when I pick up the finished glasses there is always some kind of adjustment that needs to be made with the "arms" of the frame so the glasses aren't too loose - nor are they too tight - and to be sure the bifocal part is lined up correctly..

So - how can all of that be done by mail? :confused3

I really don't want to spend an arm and a leg on glasses, but on the other hand, I want them to be "right"..

Anyone?
Thanks! :)

I'm bumping this for you, C.Ann.

I've read about buying glasses online too. I've been tempted to get a pair as a back up. Haven't done it yet. I know you have to get a measurement for pupil distance. I did get that awhile back.

Getting glasses with bi-focals seems trickier to me. Hope you get some answers.

This site has a good discussion of the process and the different companies.

The only measurement that they need is the distance between your pupils. You can have someone measure you or ask the optomitrist to add this to your prescription.
We have bought 10 pairs from Zennieoptical. All have been fine. In one case the lens developed a flaw after a week, and they replaced the glasses at no cost to me other than return shipping.
From the link above, Zennie's customer service has declined recently so I cannot recommend them. However, my last two pairs arrived two weeks ago and I have no issues with them. You really can't beat rimless memory steel frames with transition lens for around $60.

Thanks all.. :)

Looks like I may have to go the "traditional" route..
