As someone educated in the public/private schools I've managed to thrive to the point I can edcate my own, lol. Op it is attitudes like that that set home schooling back 20 uears in the eyes of the public. As a 11 year vet if homeschooling and someone who has fought for the rights of parents to choose I resent it.

Does LewRockwell.com have the right to republish an article from a 1996 Kossor Education Newsletter? And why is this dated July 2010?

This article also poses no solution the the problem that "public education is a socialist breeding ground for mindless servants of the government". Does Mr. Gatto think that private school is better? How? Or is he in favor of home schooling? If so, how does he answer the problem of the necessity of having both parents work in today's society?

The OP did, at one point. She claimed to only have started homeschooling when private school turned out to be too expensive for her family. Now it sounds like she is trying to convince herself that she made the right choice.

It's a shame that some people don't have enough confidence in themselves to be proud of their choices and politely share their experiences with others, instead of writing rude and condescending posts promoting their positions.

I read that post too...OP said she would never send her kid to public school, and they couldn't afford private school. So she decided to homeschool.


I can and do send my kids to private school for K-12. I would never make a post trying to "open other people's eyes" that my way is the best/only way and everyone else has their head in the sand if they make a different choice.

Please do, hey we should get them together so they may wallow in their lack of education. Perhaps they can join with the rest of the sheep/lemmings?

Public school is geared for the masses, and as special as we'd like to think our kids are - for the most part they are the masses that public school is geared towards. If your child is a truly gifted, free thinking genius; they will make their mark in this world in spite of their public (or private or home schooled) education.
If your gifted genius was "ruined" by the public school, they were probably to sensitive to be spectacular anyways - so no harm, no foul.

Just my opinion, of course.

OP, honestly, we all do what we think is right for our children. Whether that works for others or not doesn't really matter. The best we can do is hope that our decisions help and not harm our children. Then we set them free in the world and they get make to their own decisions. The best case scenario is that they are happy and fulfilled and contribute to the world in a positive way with whatever they choose to do. THAT is succesful parenting.

One more thought.

I dont know about you but I think there is enough Mommy Guilt to go around. We all question every move we make as it is, we all wonder if we really *are* doing the right thing. There is so much pressure on all of us to do one thing or the other and then another "expert" comes along and says "No no thats not the right way THIS is!" Parenting is HARD work! It is brutal, often thankless, and something we wont see the real results of until much much later in life.

Wouldnt it better if, instead of bashing each other, we just supported each others decisions and were there to lend a hand or a shoulder if it didnt work out?


I'll start, while homeschooling didnt work for us, I respect your right and reasons to do so. I applaud your convictions and am glad you are doing what you feel is best for your children.
