*EYE* issue ~ anyone wanna play doctor? :)

So DS has a little *something* on his lower eyelid area, rim (area where some use eyeliner)

Its a teeny tiny bump, kinda fleshy looking, and a tiny bit pinkish on the inside skin. TINY bit and nothing ON his eye, so not pink-eye thankfully!

So I called the eye doctor yesterday morning who didn't see him, but told us what to do (since thats all she'd have done if we came in) She said apply hot compresses 4 times a day, and she had samples of opthamalgic antibiotic so DH picked it up on the way home from work yesterday.

While I totally trust her, do any of you have other ideas or things he can do to *speed it up* (his words) It doesn't really show unless you look really close but it itches a little and just bothers him.

Sounds like a stye. If it doesn't clear fairly quickly, call your doctor for a prescription. WebMD says there is an OTC medication but I don't think I've ever seen it.

Your doctor's advice is spot on. The warm compresses will give him some relief and he can do them more often if he wants. The antibiotic may also have a steroid in it to reduce the inflamation. Is it Tobradex?

Sounds like a stye to me as well. I get one maybe once a year or so. Yes, just keep the warm pack on it as much as you want. I'm not sure if this is a doctor that recommended this or just my mother's old way of doing things but I actually always used a warm tea bag. Either was the warmth aways worked. They go away in time, I want to say thought it could last a couple days nothing quick. Just of course wash hands often and try not too touch it too much.

My DD had those a few times. What you describe for the symptoms and what the doctor suggested are spot on.

Possibly a chalazion?? I had never heard of this term until my daughter had a small lump on the edge of her eyelid; this was our Dr.'s diagnosis. We didn't do much to it other than the warm compresses; hers took over a month before it was completely gone.

But do I ever feel really stupid. I let him wear his contacts today. Well I didn't *let* him, it just never occured to me that he shouldn't. How ridiculously stupid. Think I'll call him and see if I can bring up his glasses. Do you think its getting much worse this morning from wearing them?

Wearing the contacts probably is not going to help. I'm surprised that he would want to wear them if the sty is bothering him that much.
