We took our first trip to Disneyland October 2012 and had the trip of a lifetime (with lots of helpful tips for this board!!)

Considering going this October and just started to look at hotels and was shocked at how much the hotel costs have risen.

In 2012 we stayed at the Fairfield in for $85 dollars a night. This was a great deal as I got a price match deal from Marriott. The advertised rate at the time was $139. Looking today it looks like rates are around $179

The Hojo in 2012 was coming in at about $149 and this year looks like it is up to $199

Am I just looking at a bad time for October planning or have all the hotel rates just risen significantly?

Not sure why. The only thing I can think of is that we need to be closer to October to see the discounts?

Halloween Party increasing the rates maybe?

We booked our hotel about a month ago for december. Rechecked what the rates are now to be sure it was still a deal and in fact the rate had increased by 30 bucks per night. I am always checking because I want to call them in case the price goes lower but for now I'm glad I'm locked in to the current rate. Crazy how things fluctuate.

Could it be Columbus Day/Gay Days and a Halloween party? We have gone that weekend in October before and if I remember correctly the rates were pretty high.

Prices started to go up in 2013, I think it's related to Cars Land. Disneyland increased the ticket price quite a bit once Cars Land opened, so it wouldn't be far fetched to think the hotels followed suit.

I am thinking of staying at the Fairfield. Can you tell me if there are in-room safes? It doesn't list them on their website.

Have you tried different dates in October? There are some busy events in Oct, Gay Days, CHOC Walk, Halloween Party and three decent sized conventions at the ACC.

There are also fall breaks in Arizona and Utah. October is an increasingly busy time at the parks and the rates are probably just reflecting that.

We've stayed at the Fairfield in August of 2012 and paid the $179 range. We are staying again this July and have booked at the same price.

Both of those are considered "high" travel times though, no?

That said, the price didn't change in two years for us. Interesting.

And to answer a PP, I do not recall there being safes in the rooms.

we just got the same price match rate for the Residence Inn maingate Marriot, we booked for september through marriot at $139/night usd, then I found it on expedia.ca for $131/night, canadian dollors, with the exchange rate that was a substantial savings. so I went to cancel the marriot booking to book through expedia and they told me about their price match, so I put in a claim and it was accepted and my new rate is $88/night. I felt like I won the lottery when I got that email!! huge savings for us!

DO NOT go during gay days. Not because gay people are there - but because you are facing CHRISTMAS level crowds. I'm talking 120 minutes for Space Mountain kinds of lines. The parks are completely saturated. Crowd predictors NEVER account for gay days - you try and plan a low attendance trip - you are screwed.

I fly in the last day of Gay Days. I am so glad it worked out that way, cuz I didn't check conventions when I booked. I have no choice about my dates since I work for a school.....

I noticed it too. We live in Northern California and I told my husband I bet with our drought, hotel prices down South will go up! They already have notes in all the hotel rooms about our water crises and preserving water when possible.

Was this just recently? I'm staying at the Fairfield in Oct, and this would be a ton of savings for us., especially for 7 days.
