Oh my..it's only 20 minutes into the show here on the West Coast and I've already gone through a few tissues :sad1: The show tonight is a 2 hour special about a former Marine who went to Ground Zero on 9/11 and helped rescue the last 2 Port Authority Officers found alive. After his experience with 9/11, the Marine moved his family to Ohio and purchased their very first home. The house is only 8 years old and is literally falling to pieces.

This is so incredibly moving..difficult to watch, but just amazing.

The home is only a few blocks from my mom's house and where I grew up. We happened to be up there while they were doing this. We didn't get to go see it though.
I too used quite a few tissues and feel he is so deserving.

Whitehall is where we live so we were all quite a buzz when this was happening. It was really cool to see all the local sights - the house is beautiful!!!!

Jenny:)

And when they walked into the house I was sobbing!

I cried off and on through the show. He is SO deserving of this, and it really was a great episode. Extremely difficult to watch though

Howdy neighbor!!!! Although I live in GA now I am a Buckeye through and through. My mom was telling us (before we got there) about all the construction materials in the old Big Bear parking lot. It was exciting even though you couldn't get close. When we go back to visit we will try to do a drive-by.

Tonight's show was awesome. There should be more people in the world like that man!!! God Bless him and his family. God Bless America!!!

I am so bummed that I missed it. I am from central Ohio also and really wanted to see this one. I hope that it will be a rerun or I can find someone locally who taped it. The family had been on the local news at one point and they seem like a great family.

I bawled like a baby.

But when Edward sliced his hand I got a little sick to my tummy.

It was a great episode. I cried almost the whole show. Just as I thought I had myself under control, I would try and speak, and then would start sobbing again.

Not saying this guy wasnt deserving because he certainly was but why wasnt the home builder sued . Or were they and I just didnt see any mention of it?

I think that the problems were not evident until after they had the house for a while. The builder may have been free of liabilities by then.

Poor Edward...I didn't know that his wife is pregnant with TRIPLETS!! I hate that he got hurt, but did you hear what he said about the scar? About when he looked at it that he would remember what a great country America is and he would remember the people who put their lives on the line for us. What a great person...:thumbsup2

My whole family watched the entire show. I let DS stay up on a school night just to watch this program. DH and I both shed a few tears. This family is so deserving. Our local paper had an article on this family. They are so grateful and very humble. However, they are finding it challenging to pay the additional cost in utilities and the increase in the property taxes. Also, they are still paying off the mortgage on their old house. Makes me wonder if they should have built a smaller house. I heard a local bank is still accepting donations for this family - so we're going to check it out.

The two men rescued were the ones the "World Trade Center" movie was about, weren't they? Was the marine the same "ex marine" in the movie that felt compelled to go and help? I too was very moved by the show. It is so nice to see someone get help that has given so much of himself to help others.

I read that it is the same one portrayed, however when they made the movie they did not know that the "ex marine" was black.

I don't think they had the house built. If I remember correctly that is an already established neighborhood.

It's a shame about their financial troubles. I often wonder about that after seeing these shows. I thought that a fund was usually established to help with these issues. They can't be the only ones who have gone through this.

That's what I figured. The movie is very good... even better now that I've seen the real people. What a tribute.
