Extreme Couponing

I've gone from 217 lbs to 128 lbs in the last year... I also stopped couponing. You very very rarely will find a coupon for a fresh produce or lean meat item...
A girl can dream! :rotfl:

Congrats on your weight loss!!! That is a wonderful thing that you did! I do agree with you, there are many healthy things that coupons do not cover. I wish that there were more 'FRESH fruits, veggies, fresh meat coupons'!!!

Our local grocery store does run 'store coupons' quite often..."take $ off of our fresh meat counter package # (a, b, c, d)..." I use that coupon when ever it comes out. Last time it had fresh chicken breasts, pork chops, steaks, beef stew meat and ground beef...That one was 8 of each item on the list and it was for $15 off of their regular package deal. I LOVE those deals and it's a good time to stock up on fresh, less-proccessed meats.

Even though I do agree that they need more coupons like that, there are thousands of products that aren't food related that coupons are used for. In my house, we do not buy toilet paper, paper plates, healh and beauty items, toothpaste/toothbrushes, and many other non-food items without coupons.

I've tried going to store brand things like the toilet paper and to us, couponing for those items allows us to get the good name brands and use what we like.

Also, I have never purchased items at Kohl's, Children's place, target (many free items when combined with store AND MFR.coupons), JcPenny's- NEVER with out a coupon. If I need things for my family- clothing, shoes, P.J.s or what ever- it doesn't hurt to use a coupon!!!

SOME people laugh when I tell them I use a coupon for almost all of those stores, but man alive, it's saved us over $300 last year! YEAH, JUST printing off a 15%, 20% or X amount of dollars off- we saved a BUNCH! EACH time I was going to buy something at a certain store- for school shopping, shopping for DH's work dress clothing, shopping ALL FOR THINGS WE NEED...It's worth it to me! That's another $300 for our vacations fund that we wouldn't have had without using a coupon!

Thank you!!!

I just scored this past weekend at Kohl's w/ a 15% off coupon! Used it on summer clearance clothes which were already 70% off and earned Kohl's cash... spent $95, got $10 kohl's cash, saved $368. I also used a 20% off coupon at Payless in addition to the bogo sale and got 2 pair of shoes for $8. I was able to buy my children's luggage on Overstock today using a 15% off coupon. I am a major coupon shopper but it doesn't seem to work out too well with food nowadays.

We are in process of depleting our stockpile of hbc stuff so once I'm low on that I'll stock back up... but even with 5 kids we can only use so much toothpaste. :thumbsup2

I seem to spend less on groceries now because we are eating exactly what we buy (mainly perishables) and throwing away less and the fresh ingredients can be used in a multitude of dishes that my food repertoire has increased greatly.

I'm not against coupons- on the contrary- I love them. I just wish there were more offered in my area for the types of foods we eat. I'm jealous of those that get good meat deals and discounts on produce... but I've found ways to get the best prices on those things by shopping at produce stands (locally grown) and stocking up during good sales on meats and putting it back in the freezer.

Congrats that is so awesome. I just lost 50 lbs. and am thrilled.

For the extreme couponers show there is no way those people shop that way every week. And for the life of me I do not see how they end up paying no tax on all that stuff. In TN our tax rate is almost 10% and where I live in MD it is 6%.

We do have a nice stockpile of HBA at our house and the men would die if they had to pay for a razor. But since that show came out I feel the coupons are not as good nor are the store deals. Rarely do we get a $4 coupon on razors. Now they are $2.

It would be a perfect world if I found a coupon "save 25 cents on bananas PERIOD" or "save $1 on fresh chicken breasts PERIOD"

We had an organic chain store called Earth Fare move into our area about 2 years ago. I signed up at their website and they constantly send me coupons for deep discounts on steak, chicken and other healthy items.

If I need TP I'm getting it even if I don't have a coupon.:) The alternative is not an option.

Congratulations on the weight loss - that is incredible!

January is *typically* when the good 'health food' coupons come out. Another suggestion is to write to the companies that carry the healthy products you love. A lot of time, if you ask, they will send you coupons for their products. Make sure to like them on Facebook too - many times they offer coupons to fans.

I am a fan of the produce stands as well - cheaper and YUMMIER! We have one that actually drives down our road! Far better than an Ice Cream truck, lol
