Extra week on the way to FW where would you go?

We visited my wife's aunt and uncle near Jacksonville, stayed at Anastasia and liked it. You can go into Jacksonville for city type stuff. They also have a nice zoo (not the Bronx zoo , but nice) and we liked to Jacksonville beaches (there is one right at the park that you can walk or drive to from the campsite area).

Saint Augustine in nice. There are touristy things to do, shopping and my kids (DS 3 and DD 6) liked the old fort (Catillia de San Marco?) as well. You could also probably day trip Canaveral from there as well - but maybe that is too far.

The campgound was well maintained and quiet when we were there last February. There are, however, no major themeparks / atttractions there so if you are big on that stuff, it might be better to think about sonething else. It is more of a quiet naturalistic park.

Thanks for all of your suggestions. We are actually planning to be gone about 4 to 5 weeks. This is our third year having most of the summer to camp (DH works for the school district). Two years ago we did Shenendoah, Smoky Mtns, Barber Vintage Motorsports Museum near Birminham, Jax Beach and FW. Last summer we went to the southwest. This year its looking like Williamsburg (DD9 loves history), Smoky Mtns, Jax beach (friends) and of course FW. We want to include a trip to KSC and I like the idea of Myrtle Beach on the way home.

Wow your dh sounds like mine. He wants to go somewhere else as well on our trip. In fact he doesnt even want to go to Disney. Can you even imagine that? :scared1: When are you going? Where in PA are you? I am also in suburban philadelphia.

I can imagine that, I live it  ! We are going in July and when I started planning my DH said we weren't we just there? I just laughed and said that was almost 2 years ago. Then I explained to him how we needed to go back this year because it will cost much more next year when our DD9 will be priced as an adult :scared: and DS2 won't be free! I don't know how I will get him to go back next time. I am thinking about buying non-exp tickets this trip so we'll have to go back to use them up!

We live in Delaware County.

great campground in Pigeon Forge .. Riveredge,

Have you thought about a drive down the Blue Ridge Parkway! A little out of the way but lots of family stops. Beautiful Scenary.

I'd love to spend a week or two driving the BRP but my it would make my DH crazy! On our trip 2 years ago we drove (crew cab truck with a 33ft 5er) the section from Fancy Gap, VA to Linville Falls, NC. It took a few hours during which my younger 2 slept, my DD9 read a book :sad2: and my poor DH dodged oncoming vehicles that couldn't seem to stay in their lane:scared1: . I was the only one that enjoyed the ride! We camped a couple nights at Linville Falls then took 40 to 81 to 441 to get to Gatlinburg.
I loved the Smoky Mtns and hope to get back this summer but I think we might take 95 to 40 and stay in Cherokee then just use the truck for day trips.

I love the smokey mtns. Got hitched in pigeon forge. I grew up right off the BRP.

Can you recommend a campround near Smoky mtn? We'll probably stay on the eastern side of the park maybe near Cherokee. My DD9 wants to go gem mining at a place in Franklin that she saw on the travel channel so we might make a day trip down there while we are in the area.
Thanks

I gotta pick Ocean Lakes at Myrtle Beach!! We will be there for 2 days before we arrive at the Fort this year just like we did last year and loved it!!

We've always just stayed in pigeon forge, but i can ask my DH in the morning. (He's asleep) He camped alot growing up and everyone he works with are campers so i'm sure someone will have a recommedation.

Mining for gems will be fun. I've always heard of that place but never have been and we're not that far away.
