Extra Time for Getting On and Off the Rides

I have a difficult time getting around due to declining vision problems and some mobility issues. I am VERY anxious about the time it might take me to get on and off the rides. Do CMs take this info account when boarding people? How long can I expect someone to wait for me to crawl into/out of ....say Space Mountain, or any other roller coaster? What about the rides that continually move on conveyor belts (e.g. Haunted Mansion). I do not get one of those DAS cards, bc I don't think it applies to my needs, so - not sure how to signal CM to give me more time. I'm not gonna take more than maybe a minute more than the average Joe, but was wondering if someone has had a similar experience? Just would like to relieve some of my pre-vacation anxiety if this is something I don't need to worry about. Thanks for your help!!

Glad you got help. They always slow rides like HM for me. There is no rush getting on the boats.

CM have been very good at giving me time when I was hurt ( I hurt my foot) and it did take me a supple of extra seconds to get in and out. At space the CM told me to take my time, if it is not obvuse you/ someone with you may want to let the CM know you need more time. With ride with moving walkways ( all but PP and the people mover can be stoped) I would talk to the CM when you get in line tell them you have some needs and that you will need more time to bard they may have you let a CM at the boarding know and they may direct you to go another way ( normally you will go thought the line and at the end you will go to the exit) this way the CM can slow or stop the moving walk way for you depending on how much time you need ( for me they slowed and if the walk way go to a point they stoped it, my Friend also has mobility problems and I notice this for her too)

for rides that do not have moving walk ways they have always been nice about not rushing me ( a take a back pack and often it get caught on something and the CM will just say take your time.

Rides where you get on and off at the same spot like BTMRR you may have the people getting on rushing you some if you go with another person then you may want to bard first and this way the person you are with can give you a bit of space to get out with out the person behind you pushing you. But even if you are alone most people when they relish you need more time will give you space. It is just they my not relish it if they are in there own vacation world

My dad has a stroke and moves slowly. Other than on people mover, he's never had any problems. I had no idea that they couldn't stop the walkway on that, but that totally explains why the CMs have always rushed him there. Good to know for next time!
Other than that, though, the CMs are always awesome and tell him to take his time and slow things down, stop, or whatever as needed. And I think he was initially worried aobut other guests being annoyed, but we've never had that happen either, at least not that we've noticed.

not sure how to signal CM to give me more time.

Just ask. Let the CMs know your/his needs before you reach the boarding area. I recommend telling each CM you meet along the queue, as there maybe a pull-off to have you board at the exit or such. Once you reach the boarding area, it could be too late to ask for moving walkways to be slowed. When it is super-busy at an attraction, they may not be able to slow the walkway, but usually it's fine.

Just be aware that there are 2 attractions where the walkway cannot be slowed or stopped -- Peter Pan and the TTA People Mover.

Enjoy your vacation!

Thank you for sharing your experiences and advice. Will heed your advice and stop being so anxious about my upcoming trip! Love the helpful folks on Disboards!:dogdance:

Peter Pan and the TTA (AKA Peoplemover) are the only two I know that don't slow down at all.

It takes my mom a little extra time to get off and on rides and the CMs have all been wonderful with her (example at HM the man that helped us after we parked her wheelchair gave her is arm/hand to hold onto during loading and unloading and on Little Mermaid the woman had her wheelchair waiting right at the gate so she didn't have to take any extra steps and helped her out of our shell).

Let them know before loading if they can slow down the moving walks and for rides that don't have them take as much time as you need to get your footing. There is no rush

Well they won't start the ride with you half in/half out. They have to provide the extra time. If people huff and puff, try your best to ignore them. They clearly have never experienced the stress involved with having people wait on you because of something you cannot control.

I have seen Peter Pan stop the ride to get people on/off. Again, they have to for safety reasons. I can't recall anything about the people mover.

Honestly, I leave in a few days and I have a minor spinal cord injury. It will take me a bit longer than the average bear to get on/off rides. I sincerely hope people will understand I am not trying to make their job harder or ruin their vacation by taking 20 seconds of their time.

Please enjoy your trip :)

The only problem I had was on Toy Story - the CM was in between me and the car and got in my way. I can walk straight on a moving walkway (slowly) but I do not have enough stability to step around someone. I thought I was going to fall. I think it was a very inexperienced young CM as I've never had that happen before.

Please do not count on them stopping Peter Pan 's Flight for a guest to get on or off of this attraction.
This is a very old attraction operating using a very old system. They cannot slow the walkway, they can only stop it. But ALL stops on PPF are E stops (emergency stops). This is problematic for this ride as any E stop can potentially cause the ride to not properly restart. It may, but it also may not. And please be aware, that the evacuation of this attraction CANNOT be done by CMs!! Reedy Creek FD has to come in and evacuate the guests...using tall LADDERS. PLEASE be considerate of other guests, and if you cannot get on and off the attraction in the allowable amount of time, skip the attraction. It's not fair to cause other guests to get stuck just because you want something stopped, that isn't intended to be stopped and have been advised of this accordingly.

I agree.

It is a very bad idea to make them stop a ride that they have said they will not stop.

Yes, Peter Pan can stop. But it is not able to stop and restart throughout the day.

Please don't ignore the cast member and try to get on, knowing you will need it to stop. Just skip the ride. Yes, Peter Pan is cool. But it just isn't all that.

Exactly!!

And this is a very difficult attraction to evacuate if they are unable to restart it (not like the CMs can come by and unlock the safety bar and have you walk off)...it is very unfair to the guests ON the attraction and those who have upcoming FPs..

I got stuck on PP for a good 20 minutes one day the CM almost had to call in RC to get us off. not fun not fun at all.

I om not sure about the the people mover I have seen them slow it stop it a few times in the last year ( maybe 5 times) when I am getting on or getting off and a guest in front of me can not get on that fast, not sure if this is something new. And then just about every time I am on it the things stops not sure why ( it maybe someone that need more time is getting off, I do not know as I am on the ride at this point.

There's no guarantee that Peter Pan will start back up once it has stopped. Then they have to evacuate, with ladders, etc.

Yes, absolutely, they can always stop a ride -- any ride -- for safety. However, stopping some rides creates a very unsafe situation for other guests already on the ride. CMs must consider risk of injury to all guests, not just the one guest attempting to enter/exit.

Due to the age and mechanics of the ride with vehicles hanging from a track rather than supported beneath the ride car, if Peter Pan is stopped to create a safe environment for 1 person entering/exiting the ride vehicle the unintended affect is an unsafe environment for many others in the middle of the ride. That is why this ride is noted as not being able to stop. The procedures required after that stoppage occurs could put the ride out of use for a period of time, potentially requiring evacuation of other guests. So please don't attempt to ride expecting that CMs will "have to [slow or stop] for safety reasons."

I have heard they may let people requiring extra time ride Peter Pan the very first and/or very last ride of the day. I don't know how consistently that is available.

Enjoy your vacation!

have never had either Peter Pan or the People Mover slowed down. not to scare you but a lot of rides if it breaks you can have to wait for Reedy Creek for come if you can not climb out or walk down steps. have not happened to me but did read somewhere about having to wait for RC on Small World because person could not climb out of boat. for me Space Mountain is the one coaster I can not do as I can not crawl out as it is very low as in on the ground

Would some kind of crutch or cane help as leverage to get back out? There are some expensive folding/adjustable ones on Amazon, and one for $20 by beyoung.
