I am leaving for WDW on Friday. I will be traveling with my DD2 who won't get her own room key because of her age, since she is free and doesn't get a ticket. We are on a package so my tickets will be on my room key card. I get really paranoid about losing/misplacing the key, and I was wondering if I can get an extra room key without the tickets on it, just for entry into the room, that I can put in a safe place "just in case." Do they do this?? I know at a regular, non-Disney hotel you usually get two keys no matter how many people are in the room, but I've never gone to WDW without other adults before so this hasn't been an issue. We will be at POFQ.

Has anyone asked for/gotten an extra room key before? Do you know if that's allowed?

Should you misplace your room key, it can be replaced. If you accidentally leave your key in the room, the front desk can issue another key.

Yeah I know, I've locked myself out of the room before and had to wait over 30 minutes for someone to come let me in, and had a tough time because my ID was in the room too - d'oh!! With just me and a toddler, that would really not be ideal, which is why I was hoping they'd just issue an extra, ticketless key.

Yes, you can get a spare room key when you check in, or later, if need be. All you need to do is ask for it. It will not have any printing on it though (at least the one they issued us didn't). The front dest computer system only allows them to print one plastic card per person on the reservation. Our CM went into the back room and came out w/ the extra key within a couple of minutes. I don't blame you at all for wanting a spare key when travelling alone w/ a young child. On our last trip, we had adjoining rooms and the kids were in one and we were in the other. Well, we wanted a key to their door just in case the adjoining room door accidentally got closed on their side. We took a sharpie (borrowed from CM at front desk) and marked it room only key. We didn't put the room number on it, but we figured it would be easier to identify since we were going to have more than one. Good Luck, enjoy your trip. ;)
