HI,

I have just joined DVC during my holiday in Orlando and have a question.

in 2010 a few of us wish to go and does anyone know if u can buy extra points for 1 holiday? I think we will need an extra 500 and if so how much they are.

You'll probably be renting/trading (see board on this site for current rent/trade opportunities) from someone else who is a DVC owner. I don't know if you can get points from two or more people in a year, so your best bet is probably to try and find someone who will have a large number of points. You don't say if you've planned on banking and borrowing, but if you haven't included that in your planning you should do so. For example, if you have 150 points in a year, and need 650 for 2010, by not taking a trip in 2009 and 2011 you can bank all 150 points and borrow all 150 points for a total of 450 points in 2010. That would cut your requirement to rent/trade points from someone else to only 200 points. (500 points seems like a lot to try and find from someone else, to me.) It's my understanding that points are rented/traded at an average of $10 a point, though you might find them for less if you're lucky. I'd assume a $5000 cost, at this point, just to be safe. Possibly more.

You can only do one transfer in or out a year. Likewise the member transferring to you could only do one in or out. You'd need to get all the points lacking from one member.

Depending on the member, you could also pay up to $12-14 a point. You might want to use the points you have for as many days as you can get and then pay cash for the remaining days.
