We are traveling over Easter weekend on the Dream. We have three rooms--ours, brother 1 and family, and brother 2, who is a bachelor. Each of us has our own stateroom on Deck 10. Brother 2 has been seeing a lovely lady seriously for a few months. If he were to invite her along, how does that work with the reservation and extra payment? I appreciate any insight. Thanks!

If you want to add another person to a reservation, DCL asks 3 questions:
1. Is there space in the room for another person? (can't put 4 people in a 3 person room).
2. Is there space in the lifeboat assigned to that room for another person? (if all the other rooms assigned to that lifeboat are full, there may not be room, even if there is still an available bed in the room).
3. Is there space in the appropriate kid's club? (if applicable).

If the answer is "no" to any of these questions, then you can't add another person.

If you are able to add the new person, their cost will be the prevailing cost for that person, not the price at the time the reservation was originally made.

If the answer to #2 is "no", it may be possible to move to another (higher cost) room that has lifeboat space still available. The original person(s) on the reservation will pay the cost at the time of the original reservation, but the new person will pay the prevailing cost to be added.

As long as there is room in the cabin and room in the cabin's designated lifeboat they will allow you to add her. Her portion will be based on adding at today's pricing. There is really no way to know availability or the cost to add her without calling DCL.

Thank you for the quick replies. I hadn't thought of the lifeboat situation. I will let him know and he can pursue if he wishes.

I would be curious how it would affect his rate since he would have paid the single rate (which is basically paying for two spots last I heard).

It won't affect his rate. Since he's on the original reservation, his price is the same.

The way I understand it - the room has a specific cost. And that cost is for double occupancy. If only one person is in the room, then he/she is charged the full cost, but only one set of port fees & taxes. If two people are booked in the room, each person pays 1/2 of the full cost plus port fees & taxes (2 sets of port fees & taxes). I'm understanding this to mean, if one person books the room, he/she pays 100% of the room rate plus one set of port fees & taxes. If a second person is added to the room later, the original person then is paying 1/2 of the original cost of the room plus port fees & taxes, and the second (added) person pays 1/2 of the prevailing rate of that room plus port fees & taxes. I believe what happens is the difference between a second person's cost on the original price and the current price will be added to the cost of the room, plus the second set of port fees & taxes.

Put another way, the cost of adding a second person to a single-occupancy room is usually negligible, but availability is still subject to lifeboat station capacity (and possibly kid's club capacity, if second guest is under 18).
