Extra Medical Cleaning Request- Pros and Cons

I have read that one can request an extra "medical" cleaning to your unit prior to check in. What exactly does this involve? Is there a fee for it? Is it worth it?

We had a VIP cleaning once as a gift from DVC Management and we didn't notice any difference. I wonder if the Medical Cleaning has to be arranged by their special needs group?

Would they possibly be the same service? I didn't even know about a VIP cleaning. What happens with that?

We were told that our GV at OKW had been especially cleaned one time back when they still allowed smoking and we had requested a non smoking villa. They had shampooed the rugs and apparently changed all the spreads etc. to get rid of the smoke smell - It almost worked - We had the windows open the first 12 hours or so and that did the trick. It was super clean. I have never heard of a "medical" cleaning but think the one they did for us would probably qualify. We weren't charged since they were doing it because they didn't have a non smoking unit available.

In the absence of pets and smoking, I'm not sure this issue applies anymore unless there were mold or some similar issue. I'm not sure DVC would know when there was a service animal issue so I doubt they'd know when to do it even if the next guest were deathly allergic. I doubt one could get this done after arrival and I'd expect a cost unless it were in response to s specific problem with the unit.

Disney does do this. It is a special service for those with true medical needs / serious (as in life-threatening type) allergies - or at least that's the intent. If you check the DISability boards, they have the most information on the special department / phone number you call to arrange it. I wouldn't see any reason they wouldn't do it at a DVC property and I'm pretty sure I've heard of people having it done in villas.

I believe it covers steam cleaning carpets, changing all the soft goods - and everything washed in non-allergenic cleaners, changing out air filters, etc. More than the housekeeping staff would normally do for a room changeover.

I think it's kept a bit on the down-low on the boards in general so not to encourage people who just want an extra-clean room to ask for it when it's not needed. One thing about it - if you get one, you can't change your room if there's an issue because they wouldn't have another room similarly cleaned and ready (so no "I don't like my view" or "I wanted bottom floor").

It is referred to as a VIP cleaning a lot of the time on the boards.

So don't ask for it unless you have a true need. And you never know, at a DVC resort, maybe they would charge you extra for it.

No experience (thankfully) w/a need for a special cleaning at DVC...but did come close to having to pay for a special cleaning of an airplane...DS had a GF (they've since broken up) w/truly life-threatening nut allergies and she couldn't fly (even w/an epi-pen at the ready) unless the plane got a special cleaning (I found out it's available on the first flight of the day, for a (relatively) reasonable fee)...

We were planning a Disney trip--well, planning is too strong a word; it was more like we were talking about one...and how she would get there was the issue at hand. She's seriously afraid of flying--even an airline that doesn't serve peanuts can't (doesn't even try) to prevent passengers from bringing nuts on board w/them--and a flight to Disney is highly likely to have kids on it, and parents of kids are highly likely to have PB&Js with them!...and even the smallest airborne bit could put her in a life-threatening situation...

It gives me new sympathy for folks who have to deal with these kinds of allergies, and deep gratitude that no one in my family has to cope with this...

Anyway, I can see a similar type of cleaning might be needed in a hotel room/DVC villa for those with these kinds of "super sensitivities"???
