extra magic hours

That's actually a really good question. My initial thought would be not enough demand, but the more I think about it, I'd tend to think it's because you're still in residential California. There's a noise ordinance. The noise ordinance is why fireworks aren't very late at night and any rides like California Screamin' have those tubes that you go through. It's so screams are directed away from homes

Disneyland has "Magic Mornings" a few times a week, when Fantasyland, the Matterhorn & maybe Nemo (can't remember for sure) open an hour before regular park opening for DLR guests & some Park Hopper packages.
Evenings would be awesome too, maybe one day :)

If you stay at a Disney hotel or a good neighbor hotel you also have special access to Toontown like an hour or 30 minutes before official opening

I was looking on the WDW website MK page just for the heck of it, and they have extra magic evenings on certain dates till 3am:scared1:!! The residental noise ordinance does make sense. It would be a nice option to have for us night owls!!

Magic Mornings are T+S Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday. For all DLR hotel guests and anyone with a 3 day or longer tickets.

Asking why DLR doesn't have EMH is quite simple to answer. In WDW it is a benefit to the resort guests who are numerous in thier 20 plus hotels. DLR would look empty if they did the same thing with it's 3 comparitively small hotels. It would also upset the huge number of people who don't get to take part. WDW onsite guests maybe over 60% of each day's guests. DL's onsite guests maybe less than 10%. So DL uses as a way to get people to come for more than a weekend but not to fill hotels.

If you think about it, the Theme Parks of the Disneyland Resort do generally stay open for Day Guests much later than their Floridian counterparts.

For example, during the Peak Seasons, most WDW Theme Parks are generally closed or about to close to Day Guests by 9:00 or 10:00 p.m., with MK closing to Day Guests a little later (11/12). Both DLR Theme Parks generally close by about 11:00 p.m. or 12:00 a.m..

This is more pronounced during weekends in the Off-Season, when WDW, including MK, will generally be closed by about 10:00 p.m. while DL stays open until midnight or so.

It's the tradeoff between the two.

That was my thought too. Peak season MK tends to be open 9AM-11PM while DL is open 8AM-Midnight. DL has extra hours built in already!

Further, with 70% of DLR visitors being SoCal locals on day trips, there just would not be many people interested.

is that on MM days as well, or on other days?
Toontown Morning Madness is on Mon, Wed, Fri and Sat. MM and TTMM alternate days except for Saturday which has both MM and TTMM. And TTMM is a ticketed event. You get them when you book a package.

Also Toontown normally opens up one hour after park opening EXCEPT on the TTMM days, when it opens at the same time as the entire park (for those that have the tickets).

I think there wouldn't be enough demand. If you only allow Disney hotel guests to access the parks then you will barely have enough people to fill Tomorrowland. Disneyland only has 3 resorts to draw from (4 if you count VGC as a separate resort). Over at WDW there are 24 resorts operated by Disney in WDW, and even with that many resorts the EMH are still not very crowded!

There are 3 hotels on property at DLR. There are 15+ hotels on property at WDW, plus the campgrounds. That creates significantly more people that would be present at evening extra magic hours.

Additionally, I think what glendalais said is a huge part of it. When we were at WDW, we were so surprised how early the Parks closed on non-EMH days. Then the one Park that had EMH that evening stayed open. With only 2 Parks at DLR, which just stay open longer overall, I just don't see evening EMH being as beneficial at DLR.

What works best at one, doesn't always work best at the other. They are VERY different experiences - each wonderful in its own way!
