Now my cousin is joining us for our trip. Should we inform the villa owner of the extra name? There is plenty of room for her. Does it matter to him?

Thanks so much.

Mandy :)

Yes, you do need to inform the villa owner if there is anyone extra staying. Although the villa may be big enough, I think the management company have to keep a record of who is actually staying there - not sure what the reason is?

We added an extra person last year and asked the villa owner's permission, and it was no problem whatsoever, but we felt it was only polite to ask.

For piece of mind it's definitely worth letting them know.

Most villas we've used have insisted on names, not numbers when booking.

There will be no additional cost but inform the owner would be my advice.

Those properties licensed for short-term rental are governed by various regulations and it's very important that the owner or management company is aware of the names of those in occupation or they will fall foul of them.

You definitely have to let them know for their insurance/regulation purposes. If you're still within the house guest limit then it shouldn't cost you any extra.

We haven't ever had to give names or numbers of people staying in villas when we booked them. I presume this is because villas are booked as a unit and prices are not paid per person. However, last time we did let the owner know that my brother and his girlfriend would be joining us for the second week, but this was just to be ploite!

Hi Mandy

I am a villa owner and therefore speak from experience.

Yes you should provide the names of all members of your party to the villa owner. It is Florida Law that we hold details of all guests staying in our homes. All villas should (believe me not all are) be licensed the same as hotels and as such are regulated by the Florida Division of Hotels and Restaurants. Like hotels we need to maintain a register of all guests.

The Florida Statues 509.101) states – “It is the duty of each operator of a transient establishment to maintain at all times a register, signed by or for guests who occupy rental units within the establishment ….”, (it goes on a bit but I’m sure you get the point).

Also you should do this from a safety point of view, heaven forbid anything awful should happen but should the management company need to answer to the fire department or sheriff’s office, they’ll look pretty darn stupid if they don’t know who or how many people were in the house.

So long as you are not going over the occupancy limit for the property by bring along extra guests, the villa owner shouldn’t mind after all when you rented the villa you paid for the whole villa. But you do need to let them know who your extra guests are.

Hope this helps.

We have 2 villas booked through Direct Holidays. During our 2nd week friends stopping on I drive were going to come over and celebrate my sisters birthday. As we have a 4 bed villa and there are only 5 of us I was going to ask them to stop over so they can have a drink. Who if anyone would I have to inform?

I would first tell Direct Holidays.

When you arrive at the villa and you know who your Management Company is I would also tell them, just in case direct holidays have not passed the information on.
