Hi. ANyone travel with an extra refrigerator? We just recently bought a small one that we took with us to the Thousand Islands. DH is worried about it being "exposed to the elements" and wants to bring a tent to put it in. Looking for ideas/thoughts.

if you have your awning out and tied down...and the fridge on a table ,it should be fine...otherwise a tent is an idea so long as its also on a table in there..and condensation might be a factor to consider....we kept one outside for a long while as describe above and it did quite well....they also make 7 day coolers now...just make sure you freeze some milk jugs with solid ice and plunk a couple inside....

We have a small "bar" type fridge that we put on a table under the awning. We use this for drinks mostly to save the fridge in the trailer. With two teenage boys that like to stand in front of the fridge with the door open, taking inventory, the trailer fridge just couldnt keep up. This also saves us from the expense of ice for a cooler.

We use a Coleman electric cooler for drinks outside the camper. The problem with this is that it cools to maybe 30-40 degrees below the AMBIENT temperature, so while the drinks may be cool, in the Florida heat they won't stay ice cold. It still beats getting ice for a cooler and works about as well.

I'm concerned about leaving the awning out with the August rain. We just lost one canopy at home due to a severe thunderstorm. That was a small loss compared to possibly having to replace the camper awning.

Another thought on the fridge is putting a frozen freezer pack in the extra fridge. We live in Orlando and I agree the fridge doesn't stay as cold in this FL heat anywhere. The freezer pack does help put don't place it by the vent in the coleman fridge cooler.
I bought cylinder freezer contains at WM. It also helps to place them in your freezer and fridge in your RV-not only to cool down quicker but it helps while traveling in this HEAT!:thumbsup2
A few days before heading out we plug in the TT and place the freezer packs in the fridge and freezer-works very well so far....:cool1:

I was tent camping last December (and the December before) and we just set the mini fridge on top of a rubber bin and it was under an awning.

The 7-day cooler with a mixture of loose ice, about 10 cups of salt, and about a gallon of water will last longer than just ice and will keep everything much, much colder.

We have a green Coleman cooler that lasts us from Wed-Sun with just the one or two bags of ice we put in it. I've never seen a cooler use such little ice.

Best thing that my Brother-in-Law forgot to take home with him...we had to clean up his mess after camping so we considered it our payment.

As others....We use a small electric fridge plugged in under the awning. It's great for bottled water, sodas, etc....Saves on space in the inside fridge, and also no coolers or ice to worry about re-filling. As for the awning, we tie it down, and lower it everyday when we are leaving the campsite.

that's a great tip!

Just be sure to wipe off the rim of your (beer!) bottle/can before drinking... or, try to keep the top above the ice/slush level...

(if that doesn't work... no biggie... it'll just remind you of drinking at the beach! LOL!)
