We booked car hire through Dollar website in the UK and opted for the platinum insurance package which was about £20 more and included everything. We have done this before and have had not problems previously.

When we went to pick up our car at Sanford airport in Feb the saleslady stated that the platinum cover did not include something called (i think!!) UMP, (or somethign like that) which basically covers you if you are hit by an unisured driver for medical and personal expenses. She said that our medical insurance would not cover us for this and that we would be silly not to take it.

We did take it, because she had been so insistant that it would be foolish not to, at the cost of about $83. Now we are back, I'm not so sure we needed this and wondered if any others had paid for it/not paid for it/had any opinions on this.

Hi

This happened with us in Oct 2001, at Tampa, with Dollar. The company that we had booked through assured us that no other extras would be payale when we collected the car! - the firm are now 'burst'. I tried to claim the extra $'s back but no luck. I was later told that I may have been able to have claimed if I'd paid using my credit card, unfortunatley I paid using my switch card - so I always paid by credit card now. I'd try arguing the point - nothing ventured and all that.

An interesting one, this one!

We arranged our hire car (for next week) through Airline Network. It is a Dollar car and we booked a platinum package. It includes (copied from the Airline Network site):

'Car & Unlimited mileage, Loss Damage Waiver Supplemental Liability Insurance, Under and Uninsured Motorist Insurance, Airport fees, and State & local taxes'.

I checked a price with Dollar direct and not only was their price more expensive, but they didn't include the Under & Uninsured Motorist Insurance.

So we booked with Airline Network, of course.
