Extra adult in room. How does WDW know?

Being in the hotel business can you let us know what the reason is that an extra adult costs more and kids dont?

Kids take up less space. Usually kids stay for free. Thats also a marketing gimmick. People are more likely to stay because they know that their kids stay free. And in some cases, are also more likely to stay because their kids are cheaper than adults.

Its an effort to make money. There is really no difference.

I didn't read all the responses but I wanted to say.....

Add her to the cabin for $5/night, giving her a room key with can be used for the Extra Magic Hour, transportation, etc.

Then let her sleep in your room. The front desk may give her a room key if you explain that she is staying at the cabin but will be in your room occassional with the grandchildren.

Since you are a family, you will be coming and going from each other's room/cabin and no one is going to keep up with who is sleeping where.

Good luck and have a great time.
