External short building at Contemporary?

This might sound like a silly question, but what is the shorter building next to the Contemporary? It looks just like the Contemporary, looks like 2-3 floors, and overlooks the water?

We passed it on our boat on the way to the CR on our way to dinner.

The building looks like hotel rooms. Are they just an external hotel room CR building? Are they DVC? My brother said he thought we stayed in that building at the CR in the early 80's, but I don't recall either way.

Thanks!

So, if you're facing the contemporary with the Convention center to your right....if you're referring to the small building behind the Contemp near the water, that's the South Garden Rooms complex.

Part of the hotel.

Back before BLT, there was a South Wing and a North Wing. You are looking at the South Wing.

there used to be an identical one where Bay Lake Tower is, that was the North Garden wing, the one you pass on the way to WL is the South Garden wing.

Thanks! I think that must be it. We were taking a boat from the WL to the CR.

Is that building still in use?

If so, the rooms must be much cheaper than rooms in the main building, huh?

Yes, those rooms are still in use. Those are less expensive than the tower rooms. A short walk to the tower. Pretty much the same rooms as the tower, just less expensive as they arent in the tower.

Not significant enough. The rooms are identical in size to those in the tower. IIRC it was a $575 up charge for the tower over the wing for a 6 night stay at rack rate.

yep, the garden wing is still very much in use. We have it in our wedding room block so that rate is pretty cheap compared to the Poly or GF, but i think for a regular week night in sept (when we usually go to WDW), its $365/night in the garden wing. The tower, Bay lake view for the same night is $440, tower with Theme park view is $485. So much cheaper than the tower, but still more expensive than a room at AKL i think.

One other great thing about their Garden Wing rooms is you won't hear any potiental noise from the Tower, like that celebrate with Mickey Mouse song which is played every half hour at Chef Mickey's.

And since it is only three stories tall, you can take the stairs instead of the elevator (unless you have a stroller or wheelchair or ECV).

There are two bookable view categories for the Garden Wing: Standard, which faces toward the parking lot/monorail and Garden View, which could face toward the canal, Bay Lake or the pool/garden area. The best GW rooms directly front Bay Lake. If you have a ground floor room, you can walk right out your sliding glass door and be steps from the beach area.

While all the Tower rooms have balconies, the Garden Wing rooms do not. But, if you're on the ground floor, you would have a patio. Also, the CR's only laundry is located in the Garden Wing. And, when it's raining, there is a covered walkway from the GW to the Tower.
