Extending on the CP?

Can someone explain specifically to me the process of extending? I was accepted for Spring Attractions/Entertainment, but think that eventually I would like to extend. I wasn't able to originally because to conform with my university's internship process it has to be a certain duration of time and Advantage was too long. Now that I've gotten approval from my university, though, I can extend to my heart's content since they don't have control over me after the end of the semester! :cool1: I talked a little bit about it with my interviewer, but she didn't really explain, just said that it's an option for when I'm down there. Help?

Once you are down there, you will get a book that covers anything you could ever want to know about your CP. You will get it at check in... and extending is covered in that.

I was spring advantage 09 and didn't extend so I didn't pay THAT close to the requirements... but i think it goes something like:

You can have no more than 8 total points and/or no more than one reprimand.

every time you call in sick/personal you get a point... every time you are one minute-2 hours late you get 1/2 a point. Those are attendance rep's. There are also performance reps but that is all up to your managers and place of work.

If you get a total of 3 points in 30 days you get a reprimand. 6 points in 60 days and 9 in 90... so on.

If you have a good record chances for extension are pretty good. You will get an email towards the end of your program ( for the january-august CPs I think we got ours around the end of June)... and that email will tell you exactly what you need to do in order to apply for an extension. It's all done on the Hub which you will get access to once you are down there.

Most people that apply get offered an extension. However, I had a friend who applied that had a few points and a reprimand and she got an extension (applied right away)... i also had a friend who waited towards the end to apply, had a perfectly clean record card and was denied both for the same work location... so go figure.

Good luck! I hope it helped a little :)

Yes! That was exactly the information I was looking for...wanted to know how good my odds are (: Thanks!

My pleasure :-) As long as you keep a good clean record card and apply early on in the process, you should be fine !! I'm assuming that it's the same for everyone, but my spring advantage group had the option of extending into another role, too...of course it was all based on availability... but it's pretty cool!!

Also, please note that per Walt Disney World Company policy, Domestic Disney College Program Participants at the Walt Disney World Resort in Florida may not be employed in Student Programmes (defined as the Disney College Program, Disney CareerStart Program and Disney Professional Internships) beyond a period of one year.

Please note that extension opportunities may not always be offered for all Programmes, and are available based upon the determined labour needs of the areas. For example, if I remember correctly, extensions were not available this past summer for Disney CareerStart Program Participants.

In order to ensure compliance with United States Immigration Laws, certain Disney College Program and Disney International Program Participants in the United States on temporary work visas may not be allowed to extend their programmes. Participants in this instance should check with their Leader, College Recruting as well as their Host US Educational Institution (if applicable) before applying for an extension.

Please note that, at this time, the Disney College Program and Disney CareerStart Program at the Disneyland Resort in California do not customarily offer their participants extensions. Participants in these cases wishing to maintain their status with the company must convert to a Full Time, Casual Regular or Casual Temporary role, or pursue a Professional Internship.

Is it even possible to do a PI given the one year rule as most of the DLR CPs are 8 months?

As I understand it, the One-Year Rule is a WDW rule. It doesn't apply to DLR Participants.

With the implementation of the One Disney concept across Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, this may be changing in the future, but for now, DLR Participants do have the option to pursue a Professional Internship after their program, despite it being more than a year. It's not something that happens as often as WDW (the DLR CP enjoys an extremely high rate of CR/FT Conversions compared to WDW), but it is an option.

In addition, particularly in Southern California, there are a wide variety of internships with The Walt Disney Company, both in Parks and Resorts and in other areas of the company, that aren't considered part of the Disney Professional Internship Program and aren't subject to that rule to begin with.

Wow, thanks!

I'm graduating in the summer or winter and figure that I have a much better chance of getting into the PIs/MIs since I'll be a current employee of the company.

You do have to have a clean record card, but that's only one part of the process and its not even that restrictive. Basically meeting transfer requirements. The big thing is that the managers have to like you and they have to have a place to put you. In my area they only took 1 person from each attraction for the summer because there just wasn't any more room, but they took like 7/8 for the spring. No obvious reasoning to why they took one person over another. Sometimes it's just a crap shoot.

so this is gonna be a really confusing post:
I when I put in my application to extend I chose "current role" as my 1st, 2nd, and 3rd choice. But here is the dealio; I went back to check and hit the first "submit request" button again. I just wanted to make sure that didn't cancel out my first application. I know i am being obsessive, but I REALLY want to extend. THANKS!
