Extended check out question

We are considering running the 1/2 marathon in January and we are going to be checking out on the day of the marathon. Has anyone ever done extended check out and if so how does that work? Or can it be done?

Thanks so much!

I didn't think DVC had extended check out, because the next guest will need to get into the room and the larger villas take longer to clean.

When I checked the Home Resort Rules and Regs it says:

15. Check In and Check Out Times
Check-in time for all Disney Vacation Club Resorts is after 4:00 p.m. Check-out time for all Disney Vacation Club Resorts is by 11:00 a.m. The front desk must be notified and approve any exceptions to these times.

So I guess it will depend on whether they need your room.

i don't think extended check-out is possible.

you can either 1) book the next night even if you are not intending to use it, or 2) check your luggage with the resort and use the pool facilities to clean up a bit before leaving.

the alternative makes a lot of DISboarders pretty angry.

I did not think there was extended check out. Thanks for the responses!
They used to allow it but changed the rules a number of years ago to make it technically not possible. Some have occasionally gotten the option though.

A few years ago I got violently sick on the morning of check out day. I asked if we could be granted a late check out and was told no. We were in a 2 bedroom and they said all were booked so we needed to leave. I was willing to take a studio, but it was a no-go. We complied and left the villa. I spent a miserable afternoon in the lobby, hanging out near the bathroom. It was not a pleasant experience for me or for other guests in the vicinity.

If this ever happens again (and I sure hope it doesn't) I will insist they find me somthing (anything) on property.

The same thing happened to us a few years back. The kids got Norovirus over a spring break vacation to the point that one of them was in the emergency room due to dehydration. They were starting to be on the mend by the day of departure, but still not wanting to do a lot so we asked if we could delay check out and they told us no, absolutely not, impossible. They offered for us to sit in the lobby if we wanted to stay someplace.. Anyway, we understood, the room was reserved that night so we left. So long story, short, it's probably not going to happen.

If you know you will want to stay longer, extend your reservation by another night. You will probably leave before night even comes, but you will have plenty of time to clean up, relax, before you have to leave.

I have been granted a late check-out twice; each time for just an hour. The first time DS and I were both very ill and taking massive doses of Imodium. The 2nd time, neither our boarding passes or room folio were left on the door. Once I called, I discovered there was a possible discrepancy on our room charges. I had to wait over an hour for them to research the problem so they allowed me to stay until everything was resolved.

If I ever knew ahead of time that I would need a room until later in the afternoon or beyond that, I would just book an extra night.

They have never admitted to do this and probably won't do it on the marathon. (You would not be the only guest wanting this) What I do is just book the room for an extra night, they don't care if you leave at 5 p.m. and don't use the room that night :)

I am not sure what good "insisting" they find you someplace on property would do, but feel free to try :) I am sure for enough $$$ they will find you something "on property" For future use may I suggest going on to the airport and renting a day room at the Hyatt. I have done that too.....

i've never, ever been given extended check outs any of the times I've gone to WDW for the races. for the 1/2 marathons I just hustle home quickly and usually have enough time to shower and scoot out on time HOWEVER when i've gone to do the marathons I've packed everything up before race, putting the stuff I'd "need" post race in a separate bag (i'll even use the disney merchandise bags), and then bring it up to the front desk/bag check. Post race I'll pick up that separate bag and go shower at the bathrooms by the pool since they have full showers. then i go relax wherever.....pool, restaurant, magical express/airport. Have fun!
