how far in advance do i need to buy express passes?
we are going to disney this summer but are doing one
day at universal. we are so used to staying on site when
we go to universal that i thought i would buy express
passes for the day because this is the first time we are going
there that we won't have FOL passes.

The usual advice is to wait until you arrive and see the crowds for yourself before deciding if you need them and if they're worth it to you. Buying them in advance locks you in and commits you to that particular day, as they are only good for the date you designate when you purchase them.

On the other hand, there have been a couple of reports recently where the cost of the Express has gone up as the dates got closer.

The other gotcha to remember is that the normal purchased Express passes are good only once per attraction. They are not unlimited like you enjoyed while staying on-site.

I hope that helps you with your decision!

Yep, this happened to our dates. We were onsite, so it didn't affect us. But I was using that chart to gauge crowds. Within a few weeks the prices jumped 2 tiers. From $30-something to $50-something.

i would chance it and buy the express pass plus on the day you are there in the parks.

the passes are nonrefundable.

if it pours down rain and the parks thin out, you won't have lines for the rides and shows.

in that case, the pass would not be necessary.

go early, do what you can in the parks before the crowd lines hit.
that way when you do buy the epp, you can repeat some rides with the pass later

I bought express passes for 4/14 a couple of weeks ago for $19.99...Now they are $25.99......I guess that means they are expecting higher crowds :confused3

Yes...the higher the anticipated crowd level, the higher the EP price goes.

It depends on how much time you have i guess. The convenience of the express is great and at a push with it you can do most the main rides in both US and IOA in a day with the express. You would miss a lot of the detail in the parks though. For convenience it is great to have but we have only had it when staying at an onsite hotel. We have never thought the queues were big enough to justify paying for it seperately, especially as you cant use it for harry potter or RRR
