Express Pass with Onsite Stay

It's been a while since I've stayed on-site. As I recall, when you get your room key it lists the person's name and whether they are an adult or child, plus the length of your stay. Is this right?

My neighbor and her family (4 adults) and her sister and her family (3 adults, 2 children) are going to US/IOA next month and staying offsite in a rental home. I suggested to them that each family book an onsite hotel one night for the unlimited express pass for two days, since they'll be there at a busy time of year and are only planning on spending two days at US/IOA.

My neighbor told me last night that due to the cost her sister booked a room for her family and listed her group as 2 adults and 3 children to not pay the $25 surcharge. They plan to use the keys for one day and then pass them off to my neighbor to use for the second day and both families will split the cost of the room.

Before I tell them this won't work (and don't even get me started on the morality of it!) because the keys have the guests names and adult/child designation on them, I wanted to make sure that I'm right.

You get a picture ID to use for Express Pass (last I knew, anyway). So, this shouldn't work... how close they check the pictures is another story.

I was just there last week. You now get your keys at check-in ane they do have the person's name. There is an A on them after the name, which may mean adult? We are four adults and didn't attempt to get away with avoiding the $25 charge. They didn't ask to see everyone at check-in or ask for any IDs other than mine since room was in my name. I don't know if they would ask to see the children or ask for birthdates to determine if you are avoiding the $25 charge.

After getting the keys, you proceed to a kiosk which takes your picture for the express pass. They then scan each express pass somewhere in the line for each ride. I don't know if a picture of you pops up on their screen when they scan. I know at least one looked at pictures but I don't recall if she looked at the pass or her screen. (She teased my son for making a funny face in the picture.)

To me, both sound like bad ideas. I wouldn't want to risk it just to avoid the lines.

We have seen plenty of TM look at our pictures and checked to see if it's us........not always but it happens.

Wouldn't be worth the risk. And this is the reason they brought the picture EP in........to stop people like that from doing it.

Thanks everyone. I'll let her know. They don't travel much, other than local day trips, and before I opened my mouth I wanted to make sure I was right. It's definitely not worth the risk.

Tell them it isn't going to work ..The express passes have photos on them, and when we were there in Jan, they checked the photos almost ALL of the time..Not worth trying to cheat the system.Stuff like this is WHY they went to the photos on the express passes in the first place.

So true.

this is the reason the photo ep cards are in place now.

people were found selling their room keys to anyone that would buy them when they checked out of the hotel.
the perks of the hotel for the parks include unlimited usage of the express lines on check out day.

Just back from my neighbors and I think she was relieved that her sister's idea wouldn't work. She said she never thought it was a good idea. Since they're going toward the end of the month they decided to just get to the parks early and do as much as they can.

Thanks again everyone.

They are checking photos more and more. I always take a funny photo on purpose so when the TM's laugh I know they are looking.

Besides, the whole reason for the photo express is because of these types of things.

We thought last year they checked pictures more thoroughly than before........although maybe we just looked dodgy.........lol........

OP.......hope they have a great trip when they do go :thumbsup2

I think they should just take your picture at check in with those handheld scanner/cameras.

They already ask for the names they could just take a snap shot then have it printed right on the plastic hotel card, like in a upper corner. The reasons why.

1. Only carry you room key again, no need for extra express pass.
2. When using room charging picture ID is right on it.
3. More durable

Boy I missed the days of just the room key.
