Express Pass Needed Mid-August

We're doing a 2 parks in 1 day trip to US mid-August. It will be a Wednesday (not sure if that matters). How necessary is the express pass? We plan to spend our time in HP areas and hit as many other attractions as possible. It's my first time at US in many many years, I feel like I'm going in blind! TIA!
