DD still believes in santa--and I am ok with that. We are going to disney for the days leading up to xmas eve. As you know, this trip is expensive!! How do I explain that the trip is a big part of her present and still keep the idea of Santa alive! (most of the presents DD gets are from us and from my sister who is also going on the trip-DH's family generally doesnt bother so almost all of her presents she usually gets are from us---EDITED TO ADD-- BUT THE GIFTS WE BUY FOR HER SHE THINKS ARE FROM SANTA).

How old is she? My boys would never notice, but they are almost 4, and 5 1/2. I would just get as many smaller, less expensive things as you can with your budget and maybe she won't notice. Forego any big ticket items. If it we my boys, I could get a bunch of action figures, cars, etc, and not spend a lot, but it would look like a lot, kwim?

We told the ones that still believe that Santa surprised us with a trip to Disney and that he will probably still come by the resort room because he loves the Polynesian but he will only have one or two gifts.

Give her a stuffed Mickey BEFORE you leave on the trip and tell her the trip(symbolized by Mickey) is her present from YOU. And then any smaller presents that you might have given her can be wrapped and put under the tree from Santa.

Do you want the Disney part of the trip to be from Santa? If so you could mail her a package with a helium balloon inside and a ticket to Disney hanging from the string so when she opens it the balloon will float up with the ticket. Then add a note from Santa explaining the early but grand Christmas present?! You could maybe include a Disney gift card so she can get her self a gift while there to help her realize she still getting something physical too. We're going to Disney for Christmas this year too but not leaving until Christmas Day. Our children all still believe so we're doing the balloon thing under our tree. We're also doing gift cards. Our kids know they are going to Florida but there will be no trip to Disney while we're there unless they get tickets, so it's on all their lists. Good luck and have fun!!

omg i love this idea !!!!!!!!!! :santa::love:pixiedust:

My kids only get one gift a year from Santa. the rest are from us. I would still have that gift for Christmas morning plus couple small things from us so they had something to open on the big day.

GREAT IDEAS GUYS! Keep them coming... We already told her we are going to disney--but maybe we can still have her believe Santa gave her part of the trip---maybe the tickets to MVMCP can be from him (love that balloon idea!!!)? And then we will get some small gifts for the tree... Although today she discovered American Girl Dolls and wants one! DOH!

You could get Santa to send her a letter explaining that he is helping to pay for the trip and party tickets. You can send your letter in an addressed and stamped envelope in ANOTHER envelope to North Pole Christmas Cancellation, Postmaster, 5400 Mail Trail, Fairbanks, AK 99709-9999 and they will send it back postmarked from the North Pole.

If you're planning on buying her some merchandise, you could either try buy some in secret and save it for Christmas, OR Santa could say that either he or Tinkerbell will be visiting during the trip instead of on Christmas.

We do this with our kid too. One gift from Santa and the rest are from us. It's harder to help when we don't know your DD's age.

Once my sister who is a nurse had to work Christmas morning. So Santa showed up in the middle of the afternoon Christmas Eve. Their Christmas tree was set up in the dining room that had pocket doors that could close. They took the kids out for the afternoon and when they got back, the pocket doors were closed with a big bow on them. Attached was a card that said, with all the children I need to see tonight someone has to be first and this year is your year. So they were able to have their Christmas with Santa and the whole family a day early.

Maybe you could do something similar with the present and part of the trip. A note from Santa saying that his elves had heard you were going to be on vacation on Christmas day. And, so he doesn't miss anyone he delivers those gifts early.

Maybe have Santa mail her a letter from the North Pole with the tickets and say that he had to book the trip a few days early? My mom still does Santa for us even though we all live outside the home and are in our late 20s and early 30s. She puts out the gifts early because they look pretty, one of the neighbors kids noticed it and asked why Santa came so early, I told him that Santa has so much to do for the little kids that he makes some deliveries before Christmas for the big kids. So there is always a way around the Santa thing.

Great idea!!
She is 7 . So old enough to notice if there are fewer gifts.... She really wants to go to the party, so that will be a great idea--to have it from santa....

If you want her to keep believing, I would just make the 2 entities completely separate.

She won't notice the price of the gifts, so just get her some lower priced items.

I would just buy a handful of cheaper gifts. Not an American Girl doll unless you have the money for it. A couple stuffed animals maybe and some candy. Craft supplies can be cheap but bulky so it looks like she's getting something.
