Explain to me what I should do about waitlist

Ok I am booked in a 1bd standard view at Kidani from Dec 19-26. We booked that to save points. While in WDW last week we did a 130pt add on at SSR. We did the add on so that every 3 years we go try for a THV. So since we are doing that we have a bunch of points that I now need to use. So I called up to see about AKV 1bd CL. Some nights were not available so I waitlisted. Now I know that we want to upgrade to a larger room and DS is asking at BLT. So what should I do? If I upgrade now to a 2 bd will that mess up my waitlist? Do I wait for 7 months and see about BLT? Either way if the waitlist comes through for CL I want that over BLT.

When I called MS the first time the guy had me so confused I had no clue which end was up. I know I have 350 AKL points taht I can use for our Dec 2010 trip but he kept saying that I couldn't use my SSR points for that trip and I didn't have enough for CL but the CL would be just over 300. So I called back and got the waitlist but the first guy still has me so confused about what I can and can not do.

So wht would you do. If CL does not come through we want to try for BLTs and at the very least I want a 2bd at AKL.

If I were you, I would go ahead and book a larger accommodation to use up your extra points. If your wait list does come thru, they will just cancel your 2 bedroom villa. If you wait too long, the type of villa that you want may be gone.

I think the confusion may be that you have points at 2 different resorts. Are you within the 7 month time frame for your trip.

If you are not within 7 months, then you can't use those ssr points to book at AKL yet. Once you get to the 7 month mark you can use ssr points at akv reservation. However, I wouldn't wait until the 7 month mark to make the resssies. i would book however many nights in a the more point accomodation pre- the 7 month mark that you can now.

Also, some confusion could be in, you have x points currently. You have Y points in a current dec reservation. Were you telling them you want an additional reservation. OR were you telling them you want to cancel your current ressie, and rebook or change to a different size villa.

If somethings larger is available now, book it now. You never know when it will be snagged up.

Well first I don't need to nor do I plan on using any of my SSR points for my Dec trip. I will have available over 350pts for my dec trip at AKV my trip was originally 218pts and if the waitlist goes through it will be around 330. So there is no need to even touch the SSR points.

When I called both times I told the cm that I wanted to upgrade my Dec reservation to a CL 1 bedroom. The first guy kept telling me I couldn't use my SSR points. Even after telling him 10 times I didn't want to use them I just wanted to upgrade the room I had and use the rest of my 2010 AKL points he would not get it. Then he kept telling me I had to hurry up and bank my 2009 SSR points or I would lose them but I know my banking window is not until July since I have a dec use year.

I'm just scared my points are going to get so messed up making changes. So if I do call and get the 2bedroom will that cancel the waitlist? Then at 7months if I do change to BLT will that then cancel the waitlist? I really thought I had it all figured out but I got so confused that I have no idea if what I thought I could do was even right.

Unless I am misunderstanding what you are doing. I think that MS is correct, you cannot waitlist or even book BLT yet. Assuming it is more than 7 months our, which it sounds like is the case. I may be unclear though. You can yell at me if you need to ..

You can only waitlist your home resort before 7 months mark. So you could wait list any type of room at AK now, and when 7 month hits, then wait list BLT, or any where else you wanted to. (Maybe book it if it was available.)

You could also officially wait list or book SSR with your SSR points(you couldn't use your AK points until 11 months out), but it sounds like that isn't your goal. But being that you own at SSR and AK those are the 2 resorts you can waitlist or book at more than 7 months. (You also have to use the points at the resort before 7 months out.)
IE if you booked SSR at 8 months, you can only do this using SSR points. You couldnt use AK points.

Also as a general rule all tricky things, ALWAYS double check. Simple human error exists and always double or better yet quadruple check points, allocations, waitlists, ect. Never lose even 1 point from now checking.

I wonder if the CM you got thought you wanted to book on top of what you already have booked and thus, why he kept telling you you couldn't use the SSR points yet.

At this point, I think you have what you done what you wanted--booked the room and wait listed the CL room. Now, if you want to change the reservation to a 2 bedroom, I would call back and tell them that you are calling to "change" your reservation from a 1 bedroom to a 2 bedroom.

Then, at 7 months, if you want to try for BLT, you call back then.

I thought I had it figured out and it looks like one conversation totally confused me and everyone else I talk to LOL. I told the guy 5 timed at the least that I wanted to upgrade my existing reservation and did not want to make another one. I even went over the points I had left and what I planned on using.

But thank you everyone I think I get it now as long as making a change will not cancel my waitlist I am good.

I'm trying to understand the whole waitlist thing. If you already have a reservation and want to waitlist something different, do you have to have enough available points to cover the existing reservation and the waitlist or enough to cover either? If a waitlist comes through, how do you find out? I assume that once you get notified of a waitlist becoming available, then you just call MS and tell them to cancel the existing reservation and book the waitlist reservation? TIA

I'm not sure at what point, you are making a new reservation and not modifying the existing one. If you are modifying the ressie...the waitlist should stay intact. Regardless, I always verify that my waitlist is still active....IF I make any changes.

Decide what you want most and then see what you can get. IF you want a 2 BR, book one at AKV if available then WL what you would prefer after that. You can later change the WL to include BLT if not available at the 7 month mark when you call back. Make sure you cancel any other pending WL so you don't get something you don't want.
