OK this is our first time on DXDP - we have stayed three times paying oop and once on DDP. Never thought of splitting ts credits although have split cs meals in the past. Most UK restaurants would be appalled at a request to split table service meals even for young children.

Not wanting to cause problems or offense could you please clarify the following for me.

1) i understand that we wouldn't be able to split at buffets or shows but are there any other exemptions.

2) We have in mind splitting three adults meals on two days (we have three adult credits for DS 12, DH and myself and one child's credit for DD - ideally would like to split three adult meals between us at SCi-Fi lunch and Maya Grill dinner and then just pay for extra drink for DD)

3) Do we have to explain ourselves to server that this is our intention or will he or she be ok.

4) Where an appetizer is for two can you get a portion for three or do you have to order two for two?

Thanks

chocolateMinnie, I just signed on with the purpose of posting a thread with your question, except for DDP. Rather than starting a new thread for DDP, I'll just watch your thread & see what answers you get, & maybe someone will add the info for DDP.

DH & I want to share a meal at Les Chefs de France, Yachtman's Steakhouse, & Captain's Grille. At those places, there are non-covered DDP items that we want, such as soups, appetizers, salads, or side dishes. Those plus a full entree & dessert each would be too much for us - would be a waste, especially the 24 oz Porterhouse steak at Yachtman's!

I guess if no one on the board has tried to do so, we can call the restaurants & ask if they will accept such, provide an extra plate, & if there is a charge.

Beaches and Cream is reported to not allow splitting,

You order the number of meals that you order, so it should be obvious. However, if you indicate that you're sharing, I've heard stories that they'll actually bring out two plates with the order already split between them.

It never hurts to be explicit when dealing with CMs.

I highly doubt that you can get an appetizer "for three", even using three entitlements.

There is no "plate charge" for splitting, though this is a restaurant-specific issue and so is subject to change, although unlikely to.

on the DxDDP, we found that many of the appetizers (even those supposedly for one person) could easily be split among 2 or even 3 people. When you consider you're getting a full meal after the appetizer, you really would just want a couple of bites for an app. Every "for 2" appetizer we got was definitely enough for 3 people. Just our experience, hope that helps.

Faldred and CAtne Thanks for the feedback - that's really helpful.

TwoatDisney Glad I'm not the only one thinking this way. :)

Faldred, or others, when a restaurant does not allow splitting, is that only if the diner asks for an extra plate? If DH & I order an appetizer or salad or side dish, plus an entree, how can the server or manager say we can't redistribute the food among the 2 plates? Don't see how that could be - telling us how to eat our food. I mention this because DH & I often order different food (sometimes 2 entrees, sometimes not) & then share. This gives us more variety.

Am I wrong in thinking we can do as described above in Beaches & Cream & anywhere else as long as we each order "something" so we will have a plate, don't mention sharing to the server, & don't ask for an extra plate?

Thanks, Julie

In all the time I spend on this board, Beaches & Cream is the ONLY place at Disney I've ever seen referenced at not allowing splitting - and not sure how they inforce that after it's served to your table, anyway. We've never eaten there, can't see the point of using a table service credit to get a burger, myself. :confused3

Everywhere we dined - and it's a LOT of Disney restaurants - they either bring the extra plate/spoon/forks automatically (without asking) or they will ask if we want it split in the kitchen. If only one person ordered dessert, they'd bring enough spoons for everyone at the table...one person ordered an app, they'd bring a little stack of app plates, and so on. Just not an issue, at all. Think you'll find Disney restaurants are very flexible & very helpful:thumbsup2

have seen reports that the servers say if even a bite is shared they will be charged 2 credits :rotfl2:

I want to go their and do this just to go back to my hotel with my receipt and say they charged me worng :happytv:

What about when paying cash; not on the DDP (which we will do at B&C)? Surely an establishment cannot just put the charge on a credit card, can they? Of course, we really could just pay the old fashioned way - real cash instead of a credit card!

Julie

We have shared at many restaurants at Disney, although we weren't on the dining plan. We have even shared at Beaches and Cream (to save room for a sundae!) - but NOT using the DDP.

We've shared at Yak and Yeti, Kona Cafe, Sci Fi, Alfredos (no longer there, now its Tutto Italia), Beaches and Cream, ESPN, Whispering Canyon Cafe (not the skillet, but the chicken meal).

So, it appears there 'may' be a difference regarding a Disney splitting policy depending on whether paying cash or on a DDP. I think it also depends on the server.

DH & I both want "some tastes" of the porterhouse at Yachtsman. But there is no way either of us would want it all, we don't believe in ordering more than we want & just leaving some of it wasted on the plate, & it would not be any good to eat later via 'doggie bag'. So, I think we will just order as we want - DH order the p.steak & I order my desired side dishes (soup, salad, or whatever), which I always advise the server to bring when DH's entree arrives. Then we will share bites of each other's food as we always do (except the lobster at Narcoossee's!). If the server wants to charge us 4 DDP credits, we will decline & pay cash - problem solved!

We do not plan to use a DDP ts credit for Beaches & Cream. We will still be in the LBV area for 10 days following our POFQ stay & plan to eat there then & pay cash. So, I'm assuming that sharing will not be a problem when paying cash. There's no way we can each eat a full burger & fries meal & then indulge even more in a lucious dessert & we certainly do not want to miss their dessert! So share it will be.

Thanks to chocolateMinnie for starting this thread & not booting me off for piggybacking on her thread! Thanks to all of you for taking the time to provide your info.

Happy travels everyone, Julie

TWOATDISNEY Aren't they great answering all our questions - have a fantastic trip and let us know how you get on.

Definitely want to do a share with DD at Sci-fi as she will have adults entree and pud while I have the appetizer and milk-shake. Wouldn't manage three courses plus milk shake for lunch!!! Though if I was on my own I'd give it a good go.

The times my wife and I have split a meal it always came out on two plates. It seemed they split the meat and gave each of us a full helping of the sides.

When you add in an appetizer and dessert a full entree is too much food. Splitting just makes sense. And Disney understands most customers do not have a house to return to. Leftovers are not easy to deal with at the World.

But remember to tip accordingly. The waitstaff actually has more work when you split a meal. They often help keep the bill lower to their detriment. Tip as if you ordered your own entree.

Excellent questions ladies! I was definately thinking about this. MY dh and I will be getting the deluxe plan I believe while at WDW but would like to do a number of the 2 credit dinners so if we could share that would be great!

Thanks!
