Explain soft openings please

We are staying at Cabana Bay Resort June 3-9 and are really hoping for access to the new HP expansion. Can someone explain "soft opening"?
How did it work with Transformers and the 1st HP area? Is it just random times thru the day? Do they randomly pick people to try it?

Consider it the testing phase of a theme park attraction. It's like beta testing of software, where the kinks are worked out before going live. In the case of theme park attractions, you could find yourself walking by a new attraction that is suddenly (and quietly) open for you to ride. 10 minutes later, it could be closed. It will go like this throughout the soft opening.

I caught Despicable Me: Minion Mayhem during it's soft opening. It was open a couple of hours in the morning, we got to ride it. The rest of the time we were there it was closed.

I would just keep an eye out, as they aren't going to throw up a big WE ARE OPEN sign.

And let me add....they're awesome. We lucked into the softs for WWoHP, and it was just as described. Sometimes we stood in line only to have FJ shut down for he day, but by week's end we had almost tired of the land.
