Explain how 2 Diff Use Years is good

I have a Feb UY (420 BLT points) and was going to do another Add-on at BLT (350 BLT points).

I am trapped into the school break times, so Nov, Dec and Feb or April and Summer.

My goal is to take 2 vacations per year.

Any people purposely get 2 UY's to accomodate such an idea.

The challenge with a February Use Year would be if you ever needed to cancel a November or December reservation anytime after September 30 - since you would no longer be able to bank the points returned to your account by the cancellation. Those points would need to be used by January 31. If that is an issue, you could purchase your 350 BLT points with an earlier Use Year (September/October) and then would have a lot more flexibility in the event of a cancellation.

If cancelling isn't really a concern for you, then the February Use Year would still be fine and a little easier to manage with all of the points in the same account.

Either can work!

I have a Feb UY at BW and an Aug UY at SSR. The advantage is being able to book reservations at the 11 month mark using points from whatever use year will not be in an unbankable state if I have to cancel the reservation. A possible disadvantage is wanting to stay at BWV for Food & Wine or early December, but risking an unbankable situation if I cancel. This really isn't a problem since I'm very happy being at any DVC resort, but if you're the kind of person who absolutely needs to stay at a specific resort for a specific purpose it could be problematic.

If you consistently go in the Fall to early Winter and Spring Break, I think the hassle of multiple UY is worth it in this situation if you can time the trips to the right UY. OTOH, if we were talking much smaller contracts, I'd go the other way.

Have two use years five months apart. Didn't actually do that to attempt to gain anything by it -- it just happened that the resale we bought establishing second use year was five months different from other contract. Net result is that we will never face the "cancellation/banking" issue -- where we might have to cancel a trip and then not be able to bank because we would be beyond the eighth banking deadline. Even though we go varying times of year, we can arrange it so that no trip cancelled would ever result in not being able to bank.
